Forums - PC - You can only get deals like these on PC

Meh.  I got all three Xbox Splinter Cells for $3-$5 each.  I could've gotten Mad World for the Wii for $6.  There's a ton of games in any Gamestop that sell for $1 to $5.  And don't get me started on the buy one/get one free or but two get one free deals that happen all the time.  Good deals abound for all formats.  Hell, I bought TEN games at once at the very beginning of January.  Of them, I only played Zack and Wiki and Golden Axe Beastrider for any significant amount of time (aka:  More than an hour).  Good deals don't equal must play.  I've learned (and forgotten and learned again) this a long time ago.

I'm not jealous.

the software prices barely make up for the hardware costs.

I know what I'm talking about, I already had several gaming PCs and everytime I bought a new one or did a complete overhaul it cost me about three times the price of a console.

I gave advices to 2 good friends lately in getting a new PC and in the end both spent around 4 times the price of a 360s Arcade or Wii.

5 years later they will buy a new one (me included. I got mine in mid 2009). Which is around as much as a console generation.

ah then must have went out and bought premade pc's. the last premade pc i had bought in 2002 for around the price of what the ps3 cost. my premade pc was ok so when i decided to buy a new one and wanted to have awesome graphics and be more powerful at playing games then the ps3 was it only cost me less then the ps3. 500 dollars at the beginning of 2009 where the ps3 was still around 500-600 dollars. the only thing ill need to upgrade will be the ram but i can play the new games at max still and it looks way better then the ps3 does. i always advise my friends to have a pc built and not premade and always over a console. the only console i bought was the wii and that was cause of the motion controls. price of the games on the pc outshine those of the consoles that is why i play pc games more then i do console games. for instance ive had a counterstrike and half life2 game since early 2000 and just recently they made portal free for people for like a week. then you have free games and mods that are good as well.

Never bought a premade PC and I also advised my friends to build a PC themselves.

With Windows, my PC and both of my friends costed 800€ each.

Wii is 200€, Xbox 360 Arcade is 200€

Cheap and relatively new PC games are 10-15€, 20€ for console games.

So yeah if you buy over 80 games (and decide to keep all of them), PC gaming might be cheaper.

What, you mean Far Cry 2, a two year old game nobody likes, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, a five year old game, and World in Conflic, a three year old game for $10?

Good for you!

Really?! Far Cry 2 may not be the a great game, but it will still entertain you. Chaos Theory also should entertain somewhat.

But the real deal is World in Conflict, which was to many the 2007 Strategy Game of the Year, which alone is worth $10. And you also get it's expansion. This was an amazing deal.

It seems that you'd rather just get a recent game than getting a great game. Do you actually think that a game is old just after a year?! Most PC games aren't like console games: They don't get stupid yearly iterations that bring barely anything new to the table. Especially because to many, WiC's greatest strength is it's unique campaign.

Just enjoy this trailer of World in Conflict:

It's not that I don't think you should play old games, it's just that I don't think you should get excited for getting old for cheap.  It's kind of a given.

@OP :The deals you got still can't be beaten by "FREE & LATEST RELEASE" deals that many people get from by "SUBSCRIBING" to that "SERVICE"(which is more popular than steam worldwide imo lol) for many years without paying a single dime..

And they don't have to mod their PC like a game console to do that..

You can find old console games for next to nothing without even dipping into the massive used game market that is essentially a bone yard for retired games. But there's still plenty of good games among those used titles. Enough to last a lifetime really.

That's one market that has essentially dried up in the PC gaming world. And rentals have never been an option either, which will always be a cheap alternative to buying new releases.

I've bought tons of games through Steam during their frequent weekend and holiday sales; they definitely have great deals that often give you great games for next to nothing. But on the flip side of that, plenty of those games have yet to ever be installed, much less played. I take comfort in knowing they're attached to my account to be accessed wherever and whenever, but...  there's still plenty to be said about the immediacy and convenience of consoles.

Bragging about PC related stuff to a console crowd is like bragging about cavier at a backyard barbeque.  It may actually be better, but most people won't care at all.  Now give me a burger!!

Off to play Uncharted 2 that I got for €20 :)

Meh last month EA Poland had pc sale where you could get:

ME2 and DA for 50 pln (which is 13 euros more or less :) )
