You can find old console games for next to nothing without even dipping into the massive used game market that is essentially a bone yard for retired games. But there's still plenty of good games among those used titles. Enough to last a lifetime really.

That's one market that has essentially dried up in the PC gaming world. And rentals have never been an option either, which will always be a cheap alternative to buying new releases.

I've bought tons of games through Steam during their frequent weekend and holiday sales; they definitely have great deals that often give you great games for next to nothing. But on the flip side of that, plenty of those games have yet to ever be installed, much less played. I take comfort in knowing they're attached to my account to be accessed wherever and whenever, but...  there's still plenty to be said about the immediacy and convenience of consoles.
