http://www.nypost.com/p/news/national/lady_gaga_calls_tell_sen_harry_reid_Px4Wc2twAhTc810cxW63ML?CMP=OTC-rss&FEEDNAME= ----link. Lady gaga calls on sen harry reid to vote to overturn the don't ask don't tell policy. The policy is that you can't openly tell your sexual oreintation in the military and they can't ask you about it. This policy was implemented in 1994 by the clintion administration. So what is your take on it? If your gay and openly serve in the military do you risk discrimination? Is overturning this policy something that's long overdue? Is lady gaga fighting for this cause, just to keep with her image? Is she geniune with this cause? Do you even care? Let the debate begin.

I really don't care what this woman does. Anyone who calls themselves superhuman or claim that their music is gonna change the world is too full of themselves IMO. I think she really cares about gay rights, but mainly because gay guys are the ones who support her music the most. If someone like Miley Cyrus (i don't like her btw) who has very few gay fans, were to support gay rights, because she thinks that the laws are plain unfair towards the gay community, that would be commendable IMO.

that's a great point actually.

Wait a min i'm confused, isnt this policy a good thing, you dont have to tell them your personal orientation, and therefore they cant discriminate against you because they cant ask. what do you gain by overturning this law???

I haven't read the article, but I'm assuming it's because gay people should be able to express themselves openly and not have to hide, and that discrimination needs to be fought against by changing people's views of gay people; not hiding gay people.

That's what I garnered, anyway.

Well a judge did just rule it unconstiutional so...

maybe she's jumping on the bandwagon to try and steal credit.

Yeah you have a point i did read the article, it didnt really cover that. but i imagine its all about treating the gay/biosexual community the same as the hetrosexual, the policy at the moment prevents that equality.

however the problem is that i have three gay friends, and personally if i was in their position i would prefer to have my personal life private. so to me it seems Lady Gaga is more interested in the publicity of this type of thing rather than thinking about whats actully best for the non hetrosexual community.

no she doesn't care about publicity, honestly she doesn't need anymore pubicity so what would doing this do to her popularity? Absolutely nothing.. she's already the biggest pop star on earth..

The point isn't you have to say YOUR GAY to the military, the point is that there are people who are gay in the military who feel hurt that they can't be who they are in the military despite fighting for the very country that denies them their identity.

She has been against it well before she was famous to begin with.. now suddenly that she's so famous, she can't do something nice or it's seen as "She's doing it for more pubilicity". I thought fame was originally meant to develop leaders in our community who can truely be heard. Because last I heard the millions of gays fighting for that policy continue to be ignored, having a huge pop star like her fight for it, adds to the fight significantly, since chances are the senators better support her word, or half of their votes go bye bye since she has the largest fan base out there out of any musician.

mM

dont ask dont tell seems like a fine policy regarding sexual orientation while in the military.

except when it does come out about certain peoples preferences they kick them out, which is silly to say the least...
