It's an intended play of words on the thread's title's typo. ;)

I would be surprise if Sony takes another price drop next year.  Fans love to throw this out there but I believe Sony would like to make a profit and not continue to give it away just to gain market share

This exact same thing was said before the last two price drops.  I got called crazy for predicting the last price drops and I was spot on.

It seems this generation, Sony is really trying to keep their market share over making a profit.  Fortunately, they won't have so much R&D for the PS4.  In my view, all the money sunk in the PS3 won't be made up until the PS4 life cycle.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Wii>P.S.3>360 Worldwide this Holiday.

The Slim effect and the Reach effect will be gone by the Holiday everywhere besides for America. Yes the 360 should have big #'s in America but I think Others and Japan P.S.3 #'S can take the 2nd spot.

yes but your forgetting kinect which is building huge numbers with 2 months to go so while slim and reach may die down within a month it will just be another reason to pick up an xbox with the hype of kinect come november

though wii will surely dominate as always

Yes Wii will dominate this Holiday like always...

Anyway Kinect and Move both won't do much in my opinion.  Kinect will have a much better launch over the Move but Move should have better legs starting as early as Late November 2010. In the end they both won't do much to effect sales at all. The 2 motion devices are both mainly targeted at the "Casual" non gamer audience. With that said they both will sell to some "Core" gamers but not many. While it is targeted to make "Casual" people buy a P.S.3 or 360 I don't think either will work to do what they were made to do. To explain, The Wii is $200 and comes with  2 games and Motion Plus. The P.S.3 is $300 for the console alone(Already higher then the Wii)and $100 for the Move bundle which makes $400 total. Now lets look at the Move Console bundle...also $400 with only 1 game. The 360 Arcade Slim with Kinect would be $300. Yes the $400 P.S.3 Move bundle may make the 360 Kinect bundle look cheap with its $300 price but that won't matter any since the Wii is still only $200 with 2 games. For the "Casuals" the price matters a lot and they will buy the cheapest priced motion controlled console out their and thats still the Wii by  $100 and another game. Also the 360 and P.S.3 are already labeled as the "Core" consoles and I don't think Kinect or Move will change that. While the Wii is already labeled as the "Family Friendly" console and Kinect nad Move won't change that either. In the end Move and Kinect won't do anything except for have small sales bumps.

seems*

I strongly believe 2010 is already Xbox 360's year while 2011 will most likely be PS3's year. I highly doubt GT5 will make such a big impact. I even highly doubt -puts on anti-flame vest- it will sell more than Halo Reach, not even more consoles. America nowadays has such a big impact in the total sales that it cannot be any other way.

So...PS3 is never going to catch-up?

well i think after the hype dies down around kinect and move gets a greater hold with halo gone and only gears and fable next year vs the HUGE amount of ps3 games comming next year i think we will see the gap shrink again but for now 360 has this year i feel

Ok, why are people's opinions so dead set on Kinect hype dying down and move gaining popularity .. I still don't see any proof or logic in that. Those games will do nothing for HW, MS will have more games than Gears and FYI Fable is next month.

A bunch of core Kinect games were just announced, and that was from Japenese devs, havn't even seen what the western devs have happening.

Believe it or not, there is now more flexibility for price on the 360/Kinect than PS3/Move.

I doubt they'll ever make it back even with PS4. PS3 has wiped PS1 and PS2 profits (and PSP), a PS4 would have to be more successful profit wise than PS1/PS2 and PSP combined.

That said Sony have a good 3 years to profit on PS3 now, the more price cuts they have just puts them back into the losses/break even dillemma though ...

I just feel that as of yet kinect hasnt shown me to have the cababilites it wants to have however with tgs over and some new interesting looking core games we'll see but i just have a feeling kinect is going to disapoint based on what i've seen so i feel like after its release people will relise it doesnt deliver and sales will go down and hype will go down as well

like i said im interested to see how the core games perform as well as how responsive the end product is as well as review but for THIS holiday no matter what kinect is off to a good launch if anything

First thing:

The revision boost isn't going to just go away and the Xbox 360 isn't just going to go back to its regular sales rate by the time the holiday season in America rolls around. It is a fundamental change. The Xbox 360 revision adds value by taking away the stigma of reliability problems, the issue for some of not having wireless for some and the issue of the console itself being too noisy for some. The boost would have died down by now had it been nothing more than a change in casing for the Xbox 360. Now the Xbox 360 has caused people who already dismissed the system to check it out again. Even with a small mid term boost of 5-10% YOY is a significant change in itself. It has been 13 weeks since the Xbox 360 revision came out. We're long past due for it to die down if it was a simply FAD.

Second thing:

Kinect is designed to expand the userbase of the console beyond the current M16-35 out to a wider audience and Microsoft has been doing a lot of grass-roots advertising. They are getting these things out to stores and taking advantage of the novelty and demo-ability of the interface. In basic marketing terms Microsoft is spending a significant quantity of money in getting people aware of and to try this interface. It already had 8 weeks to go before launch and the main TV advertising etc hasn't started up. Chances are Kinect Xbox 360s will be in high demand this Christmas simply because it is novel to people and because Microsoft built so much awareness. Given the fact that the interface already has over 100,000 pre-orders 8 weeks out from release does bode well for it. The price is appropriate so long as people value the experience. The actual cost of a Kinect Xbox 360 S 4GB is around the same price as a Wii at launch with a game and extra controller, thats if you could get it at MSRP.

last thing:

Sure Kinect alone isn't going to do it alone. The revision alone isn't going to do it. However with the sales of the PS3 closing in and the Xbox 360 likely to recieve a 100K or more boost WOW its very much plausible the Xbox 360 will outsell the PS3 for this year. There is only 617k 380K separating the 360 from the PS3 for 2010 as at Sept 4th. By the time Halo Reach and this weeks sales are through the gap will probably be under 450k.  250K. That isn't a significant difference when the Xbox 360 remains ahead in weekly sales and end of year sales in Q4 account for a large proportion of overall sales.

Edit number for PS3 / 360 gap due to http://www.vgchartz.com/yearly.php
