If I'm being perfectly honest, I've suspected Homer_Simpson since Day One. I couldn't put my finger on why, though. I didn't want to bring it up until I had some concrete evidence. You provided said evidence.

Updated Suspect List:

Hephaestos: Lying about his initial roleclaim (albeit understandably); claiming the role of Doctor; in possession of a role perhaps too powerful to actually exist. And yet: If he is telling the truth, he is incredibly powerful.

Radishhead: Acting sneaky, continually affirming that "we need him", without saying how or why (incidentally, he was saying this on day one as well); hinting at being a Doctor (or something similar). And yet: An experienced player.

Homer_Simpson: Posting several times to ask what is going on; seeming rather distant; being evasive; using the most pathetic "don't lynch me" excuse in the book. And yet: ???

MetalGear94: Two consecutive FF villain avatars (including, yes, Sephiroth; also Kefka), correctly guessing that c03n3nj0 was Aerith. More likely Serial Killer than Mafia. And yet: Repeatedly proclaims that it was all a joke.

So, I can see more justification for Heph's action as a pro-town player than any of the other three. He was fairly quick to respond to all accusations, finally did tell what seems to be the truth, and his lies were for perfectly valid reasons:

a) As you said, prof, claiming the Doctor straight off the bat is incredibly suspicious

b) The Mafia will kill the Doctor, and ordinarily, he can't do anything.

On re-examination, radishhead is behaving slightly more awkward than Homer Simpson, but I wouldn't be overly surprised if they were both scum.

This is a fair point. Anyone could roleclaim the lie detector and just say anyone is lying.

It's a fair point, but it also allows the players that are genuinely pro-town (who are falsely accused by the "lie-detector"), to know that the player that accused them is almost certainly Mafia.

The Lie-detecor loses his role as soon as he roleclaims. 

So, in reality,  a real Lie-Detector would only be willing to come out when he has a high amount of information.
