Forums - Sales - Why is the 360 still selling as it has been?

Why did this thread turn into comparing the 360 to the PS3?

OT: It's selling to the existing base who are upgrading, and there's still a lot of buzz surrounding the machine, so new gamers are jumping on board. The momentum has swung again, like on a pendulum, in the direction of the 360. With the remodel, Kinect and Halo pushing it.

Why are people buying the PS3? Both the 360 and PS3 look cool, offer sick games, and the only real difference between the two is blu-ray. Also Arcade 360's are $199, and HD gaming that cheap is pretty appealing.

It began with this. Mostly flamebait and off-topic.

Saying the 360 and PS3 look cool, offer sick games, and the only real difference is blu-ray is flamebait?

"Why are people buying the PS3"? - off-topic.

"The only real difference between the two is Blu-ray" - flamebait.

Now what exactly did the PS3 have to do with the thread? In that same breath, would it be OK to do something similar regarding the 360 in a PS3 thread?

Besides, he asked how the thread got so derailed. It began with that post.

I think you're overreacting. Calm down. It's pretty clear what his intention was.

You know, you often say this - "you're overreacting". Stop accusing people of it, especially since you are notoroius for it.

I was giving you the reason for the quote, and you got on my case. Remember that.

Here we go again CGI. I'll stop doing it, when you actually stop whining about it. You're just having a go at him like you've been doing in the "why Sony doesn't have more huge franchises" thread. I don't overreact, but I find it absolutely hilarious how you try to label me every freaking time I disagree with you. Heaven forbid I have an opinion right? I'm going to stop right now, because you never challenge me on the essense of my argument, but instead use the typical ad hominem attacks.

Gotta love your typical portrayal of me though, because either I deny it and you continue to preach how much I'm overreacting or I accept it and diminish my own argument. In the future, please STOP accusing me of overreacting and actually debate my argument.

It's pretty clear Michael was making the point that the 360 and PS3 are two great consoles, albeit similar, and have great games. What's also pretty clear is that you're still laughably inconsistent when declaring flamebait. Nobody can say anything mildly questionable about the PS3 without you jumping down their throat like there's no tomorrow. Maybe if you'd be as adamant a defender of the 360 as you were the PS3, then people wouldn't write you off so fast. I'd love to see you go after "flamebait" and "off-topic" comments as much as you have in this thread, because every thread has at least a few, most of them a whole lot worse than this one.

Probably only cause there's a new model and a big game just released

- If you actually paid attention, you'd understand why I quoted Dallinor in the first place. Quit acting like a victim all the time.

My take. You say I'm whining, but your first quote to me was a complaint. In fact, only time you really ever quote me, is to complain about something. You're usually negative on just about anything (don't get mad at me, the post history speaks for itself) and then quote others accusing them of complaining/whining/overreacting. Don't accuse people of stuff you do, it's annoying.

The point of the quote, Dallinor asked a question. It was answered. And since this is meaningless, I'm done with it.

While you're at it, answer me this, will you ever debate me without saying I overreact when you clearly do the same? Stop acting like what your perception of me is is fact and that nobody else can do the same. You didn't just answer the question, you provided commentary on which I disagreed with, and you made a big hooplah about my disagreement saying I was overreacting as you normally do, and ironically enough, entailed you overreacting.

But make no doubt about it. You insert your opinion far more forcefully against people who criticize the PS3 in the slightest than you do against those on the opposite side. I'm not the only one who notices this either.

But make no doubt about it. You insert your opinion far more forcefully against people who criticize the PS3 in the slightest than you do against those on the opposite side. I'm not the only one who notices this either.

I said I was done but I need to answer to this irony. I wasn't forceful in my resposne to anyone but you, and only because this is common of you, to accuse others of overreacting (something that is noticed far more frequently by many more than anything you can spew about me), and/or how defensive you are when anyone who's preference is mainly 360 is "in trouble" from the "bullying" PS3 crowd. Trust me, it's observed, a lot, and you've NEVER defended anyone outside of the 360-heavy crowd, unlike me. So this makes it clear to me why you quoted what I said about Michael-5 in the first place.

In regards to just debating with me, anytime I ever discuss something with you, you avoid the actual topic and tell me to either "relax" or that I'm "overreacting". In truth, I don't give a damn what you think of me, as I'm sure you feel the same. But stop acting as if people are always so defensive and you are a saint. That's all I'm getting at.

The quote bars are long and the conversation is stale. Can it be dropped now?

To themanwithnoname: CGI is just mad at me because I got one of his friends banned when he called me a fanboy. This topic was created to cause a flame war between PS3 and 360 owners. I was just addressing the fact that people were already on track to insult each other over a silly console war.

Your right about CGI, he is very quick to defend the PS3. I second your notion of him forcing his opinion against people who critisize the PS3, but never against people who critisize the 360.

BTW thanks for standing up to me I really appreciate it. This guy was really rude to me in that "Why doesn't PS3 have any mega-franchises" thread. You noticed it too. I said many negative things toward the PS3 AND 360, but he only nailed me on comments that critisized the PS3.

To CGI: Why are people buying the PS3? was not off topic. You can clearly see that before I posted people were flaming each other, making fun of either the 360 or PS3. It was a flame war already. I was making the point that both the PS3 and 360 are similar and quality systems, and that why shouldn't 360 sales be high?

Also I was probably the last person to compre the PS3 and 360, there is about 4 pages before my comment. You're clearly focusing on my comment, and trying to give me a bad image. You shouldn't have used my comment as a responce to Dallinors quote, because I did not started, and I made that comment intending to end PS3 and 360 comparisions. It worked too you know?

So actually that makes your comment flaimbait if anything... You restarted the arguement to, essentially make me look bad. tsk tsk

I also second themanwithnonames's comment of you "over-reacting." My intention was to show that both consoles are equally good (like most others noticed), and that threads designed to make one console look bad are stupid. You picked me as the cause to a 360 vs. PS3 debate, but in reality, I stopped it. You wanted to make me look bad, thats why he said what he said, and it was justified. However for you thats not enough, you have to try to make everyone who opposes you look bad. Stop trying to bully other people around, he just said "I think your over-reacting", and your flipping out on him. I'm trying to enjoy my readings in these forums, so please stop trying to insult people who disagree with your opinion. Being sarcastic about themanwithnoname being a saint is insulting.

I'm mad because you got someone banned? lol.....you give yourself too much credit. And btw, the topic couldn't have been started to cause a flame war between the PS3 and 360. One, the topic creator favors the 360. Two, the PS3 wasn't even mentioned in the OP. You just took this thread as an attack on the 360 and decided to include the PS3 because it bothered you. When asked how the thread got derailed though, your post was the spark.

Actually my post did come earlier then I thought, and I probably did unintentionally spark a PS3 versus 360 war. When I read the first post, I read it like "Well the 360 sucks, so why are people buying one? Is it people with old broken consoles upgrading?" It seemed like the thread may have been designed to insult the 360.

I only intended to make the comment that, for the same reason as why PS3 is selling well, the 360 is too.

Because what bothered me?

Regardless of weather or not my post sparked a PS3-360 fight, I did not intend that. I read the OP as an attack on the 360, I admit that, and I just wanted to say "Stop attacking the 360." As a lot of people do that in these forums. I did not critisize the PS3 in any way in that comment.

Either way, you still shouldn't have flipped out on themanwithnoname. He understood my comment, and was just pointing out that your "over-reacting." You did answer that guys question, but you also went on to explain in detail on how it started a flame war, and that itself is what themanwithnoname meant when he said you were over-reacting.

My initial comment was not intended to start any flame war, but you managed to twist what I had to say, so that it became something of that nature. You potentially extended a flame war to, I dunno, try to make me look bad.

Also you are mad at me. Maybe because you never could explain those "holes in my logic." I mean you did try to discredit my opinion in the past mainly because I disagreed with you. You are pretty rude and forceful.

Nothing to be mad about man, really. You were proven wrong in that thread and kept saying I was rude. It's a dead issue now.

In here, your post was the issue. Now that you've pretty much seen in and understood it, there's nothing left to go on about.

You never proved me wrong, you just claimed that and left when you couldn't make a counter-arguement. Also you completly abandoned the tread where I had "holes in my logic." You just claimed my opinion was flawed, but never pointed out those flaws. How is that proving me wrong? I just caught you when you wanted to say I was wrong, but had nothing to counter me with.

Also the issue themanwithnoname and I were adressing, was not my original post. It was about you isolating my comment and always drilling anyone who dares oppose the PS3. You were not simply trying to say my original comment was the start of the war, you were also trying to make me look like a person who simply writes comments to start flame wars.

That was the issue that you keep ignoring.

We were just pointing out that additional comments that are designed to undermine people are unnessesary. So please stop trying to undermine people, and please learn to respect the opinions of others.

BTW I appoligize if I started any flame war with my original comment. However people should not be making threads like this, I still think there was a subtle "Why the heck is 360 selling so well? It sucks!" association with the OP. I think my responce was dignified, just poorly worded.

The bolded is probably all that was needed here, really. manwithnoname defended you for more reasons than that, but again, this is not even an argument anymore, it's baseless labels and name-calling (I admit, partially from myself as well) and should end.

Besides, I have TGS footage/info/announcements to keep watch of. :P

Wow I can't beleive you. You insult so many people and never take responsibility. You just listen to what you want to hear, and ignore everything else. I bet your like this to everyone that has a different opinion from you, so I'll just leave you alone from now on.

This was never an arguement, you tried to make me look bad, themanwithnoname stood up for me, then you insulted him. Nobody returned an insult, it's hard to argue with yourself. You're just twisting the situation so it matches what you want it to be as. I have never directly insulted someone on these forums, never called anyone any names, so I put full blaime on you for the childish name calling. As for labels, I only said you were rude before, when you were actually rude, making comments that undermined me, trying to give me a bad image simply because I disagreed with you.

I have no-reason to insult others, I just love my games, and I like to voice my opinion now and then. You don't have to agree with me, but you shouldn't make comments that either insult me, or are designed to undermine me or make me look bad.

I'm betting a moderator warned you in that "mega franchise" thread, and thats the only reason you backed off me that time.

Okay well the 360 is still selling as it has been because the quality of the console, and games, has only inproved since it's release. 2010 is looking to be 360's strongest year ever with Halo, Kinect, Fable, and the Slim effect to boost sales. There is no reason why the 360 wouldn't be selling as it has been in the past.

The 360 is only 600k behind PS3 for the year and closing. Last year the PS3 and 360 were equal for first 8 months, last 4 months PS3 outsold 360 by 2 million units. Hopefully 360 can outsell the PS3 by 1 million in the last 4 months and finish in front of the PS3 for 2010. Go Green Team!

Halo: Reach Fable 3 Kinect plus momentum of the 360 Slim should propel the 360 sales for last four months of the year.

360 sold only 5.6 million for the last four months of last year. First 8 months of 2009 the 360 sold around 5 million units. 360 in 2010 first 8 months has already sold 6 million units, 1 million units in front of same period last year. Best 4 months in front of it. Halo: Reach sales boost, Fable 3, Call of Duty, holiday sales period should help the 360 sell more than 6 million in the last four months of 2010.

360 can sell over 12 million for the year and achieve its peak sales year. 2008 was the peak at 11 million. That total should be eclipsed in 2010, even if it matches the 5.6 million sold in the last 4 months of last year.
