Forums - Website Topics - A suggestion for forum formatting re: spoilers

I had an idea, and it's a pretty simple one that I see around the net from time to time, but I thought it would be good to suggest here.

Now, we ave to cordone off spoilers in our topics and clearly label them, right? Right. Spoilers are bad! They ruin fun.

But this is kind of unwieldy and a person who's skimming could still accidentally see some, right? Right.

Here is my idea:

A formatting option that allows us to place spoilers in a collapsible text box (its default state is of course collapsed), with a button that says somthing like "show spoiler" to expand the text box again.

To illustrate, I'll link to a post picked at random from the Mass Effect thread in the Penny Arcade forums, which features the button prominently:

http://forums.penny-arcade.com/showpost.php?p=16446323&postcount=776

That spoiler isn't really a spoiler, so you an feel free to click it to see what I mean.

I really think that feature would be nifty for keeping our threads clean without having to divide topics between spoiler and non-spoiler threads.

Any chance this could be implemented?

I guess

I guess a return of the ability to highlight text would be pretty cool too?

That's a good, idea, not so urgent, but would be cool eventually....

I would find that useful, really should be implemented

Spoiler tags would be good, either the traditional one where text and background color are good and you have to highlight it or the method the OP suggested. I feel it's a very useful feature on gaming forums, and this sure is one.

VGC haven't even added half the features we had in 2.0 let alone add new ones. Don't hold your breath Khuutra.

Though we've been told that we'd see improvements by the end of this month.

I'sa just bump this one more time...

I think this is a good idea. It makes the whole posting spoilers thing essentially foolproof...

I use this in other forums and it would be good if VGC would use them as well.

This would be an excellent addition.

I wouldn't bet on it happening anytime soon though. Do we even have use of Plus signs yet?

Let's test -
