Forums - Gaming - Nomura dropping the ball about FF 13vs Multi Plat announcement?

As long as the game is a worldwide timed PS3 exclusive, then I won't mind.
If they wait until the 360 port is done before releasing it here, then I might get annoyed. I don't mind waiting it they polish the hell out of it and keep on improving the final product, but if the version I want to get is complete yet being held back by the porting process, I will feel cheated once again as that game was advertised countless times as a "worldwide PS3 exclusive" both in teasers/trailers and in countless interviews by Nomura himself.

So at best FFvsXIII will be another crappy port to the 360 just like FF XIII.

Without that "crappy port" FFXIII would still be struggling to surpass FFXII.

If you don't like the series being on the 360, blame Sony for not selling enough PS3s.

Where did I say I don't like it being on the 360?  I was just commenting on the quality of FF XIII on both platforms.  And it sounds like vsXIII would be an even larger disparity if they aren't even thinking about the 360 at this point.

You can't prove that at all really... As a huge bunch of the people who bought it on 360 would have instead bought it on PS3. (Some even buying a PS3 FOR the game). Add in MS not getting exclusive advertising, also raising PS3 version sales...

The game coming out earlier due to not having to port.

The game probably not getting half as much media backlash.

Everything builds up yaknow. FFXIII if it was exclusive could be doing just as well as it is doing while being Multiplat.

Your second part is probably true though

Even if being a PS3 exclusive would have helped sales, I still think it would be struggling to surpass XII.

A lot of 360 owners bought FFXIII because was already on the console they own. You can't assume many of them would actually have bought a PS3 for it.

What "media backlash"? You mean FF fans pissing and moaning on the web? The major gaming websites and magazines gave it great reviews. That seems to matter more than "media backlash."

Nah, even without the 360 version , FF games have very strong legs , i don't see how you are comparing the lifetime sales of a game released 5 years ago  to a game released months ago.

Well whats the quality issue?

Movies aren't as sharp? Resolution is a little lower?

Can you really call that low quality?

I disagree. FFXII has sold 5.6 Million in 4 years. FFXIII on the PS3 alone has sold 4.2 Million in under a year. Those sales would be inflated by a LOT if there was no 360 version. In under a year it would be already pretty close to FFXII, so I don't see how it would be struggling. Even if it did struggle... Selling 5.6 Million units is no small feat... Never mind in under a year.

You can't assume they wouldn't have done neither...

And the media backlash of the game itself. Not all major gaming websites/mags gave it great reviews, a lot of them bashed it. It was slated for being way too linear. It was in development for so long, yet didn't meet a LOT of peoples expectations. It's STILL getting backlash now, with the stupid "360 adverts used PS3 footage" stuff coming out. Magazines weren't giving it the usual 9/10, 10/10 reviews we've come to expect from Final Fantasy. Yes, the fans were pissed off and ranting like crazy. That adds to it all. Even down to the booing of the 360 at the launch party.

i was happy with the 360 version of final fantasy 13 and if versus follows suit i will buy it also on the 360. i bought ff13 on both the ps3/360. i buy every rpg i can.  :)

I assume XIII will have good legs on both consoles, but some people would also argue the series isn't known for legs.

Anyhow, the added sales of the 360 made is surpass XII rather quickly.

In the end, it doesn't seem to have been a bad move for SE at all.

Bear in mind I said FFXIII would still be struggling to surpass FFXII without the 360 port. I didn't say it would never happen.

The publications that bashed it aren't the major websites and magazines. Hence, getting great scores from IGN and Gamespot is far more important than the opinions of small websites.

The booing was just dumb fans. They were big enough Sony fans to boo the 360, but it doesn't appear going multiplat was a big enough issue to keep them from buying the game. If they were really upset, I don't think they would be at a launch event.
