Forums - Sony - PS2 owners not getting PS3s ***SHOCKING***

Welp, out of 140 million PS2s sold, only 40 million have upgraded to the ps3.

We are now 5 years into the 7th generation and in a stunning fall from grace, and reversal of fortunes, the ps3 sits in last place, which begs the following question.

WHAT CONSOLE DID 100 MILLION PS2 USERS BUY??

I say most bought an xbox 360.  Out of my 5 friends who owned a ps2 (including myself) only one has a ps3.  The rest all went with xbox.  What you think?

Erm, yeah. I wouldn't call this a "current event," lol. Quite a few less than 140 million consumers have made the upgrade to PS3, but I don't see where you're getting your info on the statement that they're all going for the 360. Plenty of people don't even have a next gen console yet or just got the Wii.

Your anecdotal evidence doesn't prove much.

I get the vibe that this thread was created for bitter reasons.... :/

I survived the Apocalyps3

PS2 had a lot of casual users, so I'm going to guess the Wii has most of those previous PS2 console owners assuming that all the PS2 owners bought a console at all.  Considering how much high Wii sales are than PS3 or 360 this seems like the most reasonable conclusion.

eidt: and along with the guy above me, I would say your "evidence" doesn't prove a single thing.

...

Wii probly did get most i hindsight

Why is Xbox total sale at only 43 million then O_O?!?

All my PS2-owning friends got the PS2 because it was affordable and had an absolute ton of games with a really diverse library, including party games, casual games, and games that won't scare girls away.

So now they all have Wiis.

Two of them have Wiis and 360s.

The PS2 didn't sell 140 million in 4 years you know? ............

Are you also aware the PS2 still sells? You talk as if the PS2 stopped selling after this generation started. The PS2 actually sold better during the calendar year 2005 and 2006 than the Xbox 360, lol....

Why would anyone need a console when you can play Farmville in a webbrowser...

You beat me to it..!

8th gen predictions. (made early 2014)
PS4: 60-65m
WiiU: 30-35m
X1: 30-35m
3DS: 80-85m
PSV: 15-20m

Thread is kinda silly.

For a start, a lot people don't feel the need to have a current gen console. 2 people in my family alone aren't pushing themselves to get a Wii/PS3/360. My Dad being one. He had a PS2, but now he has a gaming PC. My older brother is another example. He has a PS2 but can't get the money together to get a PS3/360 because of other commitments. He only actually WANTS current gen console for GTA/Red Dead.

There is no evidence of where "most" of the PS2 owners went. But I'm gonna fix your thread title a little bit for you anyway, as I have just as much evidence as you do when I say when the PS3 hits $199 it will sell like the PS2. Boom.
