It's not like they just started ripping the discs the last few days.

Those games already existed looong before the jailbreak. Though I could imagine they're quite a bit popular and get posted more frequently now.

What for?

As test games for hackers and in case it works for the public once the hack is released whether it's via Blu-Ray or HDD.

Also probably as part of the usual release crew war.

But what crews have to do with that because as far as I know the PS3 games you could download were just mirror images of the Blu ray contents, not cracked games?

Would be news to me if you needed some kind of cracked game to run it on a jailbreaked PS3.

Why shouldn't a 1:1 copy be enough ?

Yes yes but why would you need a crew to do a 1:1?? You mentioned crew wars.

Well they get earlier access to the games and are generally more trustworthy than some guy on the internet. (which basically comes down to 1. free of viruses and 2. it's the actual game and not something else.)
Also you can download the game parts from all over the internet and you can be sure they're compatible if your initial source is down. Or if you use torrents these games will probably have a better seeder/leecher ratio.

But other than fame I don't think they earn anything from that. Be the first crew to upload a game = win.

Thanks for explaining.

You're an expert at these things.

You could not expect me to wait for the final Lost season. Or ANY Lost season. Needed to download them right when they aired in the US

If you download it, you're just wasting time, energy and bandwith. FW 3.42 negates all types of Jailbreak, Groove, whatever.

I know because these people uploaded them a few days ago. But I was talking about the people who originally ripped the discs months/years ago and put them online.

These guys simply downloaded the games elsewhere (torrent/usenet is my guess) and posted them on that forum.
