Not really

FFXIII could have easily got that extra 1.5 Million on PS3 (that its at on 360 right now) had it been exclusive.

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

Yeah right... Over a milion of X360 gamers would buy PS3 for FFXIII ha ha ha.

Don't be silly.

70 plus million userbase vs. 30 million userbase? i think someone is full of shit. Exclusives are stupid for a business, only great for "fanboys"

This is clearly SE looking to test waters and MS looking for more evidence that their consoles will be receive big franchises.  Coming this late, on the least preferred console in the region, on multiple disks and with (unless they've improved things) a lower resolution both for gameplay and the cutscenes, I really wouldn't expect this to sell very much.

TBH, like Mass Effect 2, and other titles, this simply confirms that, with two consoles essentially at parity (level out the different spikes for price cuts, etc and adjust for launch and the 360 and PS3 worldwide are essentially neck and neck) few third parties are willing to be exclusive, and that only first party titles or negotiated (in whichever fashion) exclusives by third parties will exist.

Apart from the odd big exclusive (GT5, Halo) or notably skewed franchise by fanbase (FFXIII) most third party titles sell more or less the same (adjusted by install base) on each platform - so this should hardly be a surprise.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

1. FFXIII (PS3) version didn't have much advertising in the west (none in UK actually)...yet it sold so much

2. Userbase argument sucks considering...check how much PS2 had sold when FFX had come out...its way lower than 30 Million

3. This isn't a matter of should it be exclusive or not, its a matter of whether a significant amount of sales would be lost, and they wouldn't be really.

4. Eventually FFXIII PS3 will cross 5 Million which is shows there's more than enough people on the system to sustain Versus XIII in sales.

I actually agree with this.  The initial sales would have been worse, but I think the legs would have been better.  I do stand by the fact that the multi-plat decision, content-wise, had a negative effect on the quality of the game.

Looking at past mainstream Japanese games that released on PS3 and 360, I would be very surprised if this hit 100k in Japan.  From what I observed in Japan, most 360 owners = PS3 owners as well.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Conservatives:  Pushing for a small enough government to be a guest in your living room, or even better - your uterus.

There is really no reason for Final Fantasy to be a Playstation exclusive series anymore.

The PS3 does not have the marketshare that the PS2 had.

Everything is multiplatform these days.

There is no reason why people on other platforms can't enjoy Final Fantasy as well.

hahahahhahah, thank god you're not in the video game business, all of your excuses are PRO sony. Dude who cares if the game wasn't advertised as an exclusive or not, the game was advertised, and that is what matters, S-E doesn't give a shit, all they care is about MONEY. and 70 million userbase means, MORE people who can have access to your game.... hahaha. So according to you 5 million is good, well they could aim to sell more if the game was developed for both consoles. Legs or no legs, people know FF, if the game is good it will sell. Potential sale haven't been lost at all, in fact the game outsold FF XII WW which was a PS2 exclusive, and the sales will continue to grow. Who knows it may end up outsellin FF X. Multiplatform works for FF, and only the bias sony fanboys are in denial.

Its not worth the time continuing this with you.
