Forums - Nintendo - Would you like it if Retro Studios made a Zelda game?

See title.

This is a discussion about the possibility of Zelda being handled by a team that's established itself (so far) by doing great things with franchises in areas it has no proper experience in. Retro Studios is responsible for the reinvigoration of the Metroid franchise for modern audiences, and soon they may be responsible for the same with Donkey Kong Country.

The question I'm posing is: what would you think of them doing a Zelda game?

Quick guidelines, because sometimes people need them:

1. This topic is not about complaining about the Zelda games.

2. This topic is not about complaining about Zelda fans.

3. This topic is not about complaining about Nintendo mainstay franchises inn general, or the people who love them. If you want to do that, make your own topic and leave mine out of it.

Breaking any of these guidelines will earn you absolutely no punishment whatsoever, but I will hate you, ignore you, and encourage others to ignore you as well.

Now.

I think Retro Studios, if guided by a sure hand (read: Miyamoto) could make an awesome Zelda game.

I appreciate their art direction, which is among the best in the industry: http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20090506011449/metroid/images/5/5a/Samus_concept4.png

I enjoy their game structure, which suggests that they understand and appreciate the fanchises they participate in.

I like their music.

I like the respect with which they treat the worlds they operate within.

I like that they're able to take franchises in directions we would never expect while remaining true to the spirits of thoseir roots.

I think that they wouold make a pretty good Zelda game.

So far, i would love them to make one... if for some reason DKCR sucks, then i might change my stance.

I'd be fine with it. And actually for it.

Maybe Miyamoto working with them for zelda would produce something rather interesting, and different.

Tried to follow guidlines. :D they're a bit strict.

Keep in mind, I've liked the the previous zelda's quite a bit, and didn't like prime, but thought they were well made if that makes sense at all.

So I like experiments... sometimes produces brilliant games... sometimes produce aweful games. I'm for this!

One of the big reasons I don't mind the idea is that fres perspectives on old properties give us new ways to appreciate them; an infusion of new ideas from a different source, even if it's jarring in the short term, can make for some very interesting and beneficial differences down the road.

that's a lot more eloquent way of saying my perspective. so I guess I have the same perspective

I don't know their track record in this type of game, and I actually don't think they have one (but honestly I have no idea). I don't feel qualified to answer your question, because honestly, I don't know.

I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to the idea, but I would be cautiously skeptical if said game were announced.

I think Zelda is a series that would benefit from an infusion of fresh ideas, is the thing. I'm notn going to call the series stagnant, but I am willing to say that there's a degree of differences (while being faithful) that would be a lot easier to get with the benefit of a Western perspective.
