Forums - Microsoft - GT Kinect Video Physics Tech Demo

Pretty neat out of the gate, and it will get better over time as the libraries get refined and the research continues.  Now they just need to build that sentry gun...

How is this fail?  They were intentionally trying to make Kinect have a problems with how it works, in other words "break it".  And from what I saw, the Kinect controller did a really good job keeping track of who they are and after a few hiccups it still did its job and did it well .

I am fairly certain if you intentionally try and make any device not work properly you can do it fairly easy.  So I am certain you could do the same with Move and the Wii controllers.  The move esp... because if you go behind another person like they were doing it wouldn't detect the color globes.

Number one, what does this have to do with the Move?

Number two, Move still works when it is hidden. Some games even require you to hide the controller behind your back. The Move still work when out of the Eye's view.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

The move comes into this as an example as does the wii.  If you intentionally try and make any device not work properly you can do it.  And I think its a fair example since both the move and Kinect work on a similar principle.

When you put the device behind your back does it continue to track your position?  From my understanding no, if I'm mistaken please point me into the right direction on finding out more info.  From reviews I have read Move requires constant recalibration while the games load etc..  So indeed you do need to have it in view of the eye toy for it to track your motion.  Any wireless controller can work behind your back as long as your just pushing buttons.

*****EDIT*****

Don't take any of this as a knock on the Wii or the Move, its not.  I just think the "FAIL" comments for this particular post are rediculous.

I would also defend the Move or Wii if it were to come up against the same style post.

It actually just requires calibration when starting up a game from what I know. I also am not 100% positive what happens if you try to block the eyes view, but Brian Crecente had trouble getting it to not register. I also know that you can navigate the XMB using the Move while having the Eye not even connected to the PS3. Check the link.

This is from Kotaku, the same place your earlier link was from.

"Constant Calibration: The one thing that concerned us during our time with the Playstation Move was how constantly it seemed to want to recalibrate itself. It rarely if ever actually stopped a game to do so, but there were a lot of between level, between game adjustments going on. So many in fact, that we wonder if there isn't an issue of calibration degradation going on, or at least a concern that it could happen during a gaming session."

WOW ...epic fail, what's up with all spaz attack from the avatars, i thought they fxed that?

Who ever decided to use this as a promo should be fired from microsoft.

Wow, you actually thought this was an ad from Microsoft? LOL

As they said, the people at Gametrailers were testing the limits of the technology and were intentionally trying to break it by crossing over each other and picking up objects to try and fool it.

Does it mention which games did this?

Either way I am not sure it would bother me too much. If you watched the stress test video with Brain Crecente it took him all of 5 seconds to recalibrate. It seems to be something that could be done quickly during a 5-10 second loading screen.

If they do it that way I don't see it being a huge deal.

that was kind of cool, gives me some hope for kinect.  I think there are some cool possibilities with a full body controlled avatar like that.  Even with them trying to break the system it was fairly impressive.  Now they just need some good games to actually use it, not this kinectimals crap.

Thats my point, its not a huge deal.  But if I were trying to intentionally  "break it" like the video was doing with Kinect do you think it would be hard?  No.
