Forums - Sony - Sony win "other OS" Lawsuit

Remember that feature "other OS". You probably don't but anyway Sony removed it with a firmware upgrade a while back. A few people weren't happy and decided to sue Sony. This case was in Australia where a man sued Sony for AUD800 (about 725USD), Sony won the lawsuit. No reason was given though.

Its an evidence, they didnt remove "other OS", they removed PSN. Not that I particularly approve doing so, but still, its in their rights. Anyway, thanks for the heads up.

It's their right to take away an advertised feature?

Thank god that removing otherOS stopped the PS3 from being hacked...

The update was optional.

I think that what made them win the case

Legally speaking, when your purchasing a PS3 you arent purchasing PSN. Its a free service they advertise as being a free service, its not hardware. Not only they advertise it as being a free service, but it also requires a separate agreement where they precise they may stop supporting it. The guy was asking money out of loosing something that was offered to him freely. No wonder Sony won.

Well for an extent it did. PS Jailbreak doesn't exploit the otherOS feature to operate. That was the first geohot hack.

I knew Sony would win this, they covered their backs big time!!

Sony will move on to sorting out the psJailbreak lawsuit now

it's the future of handheld

They made the geohot hack because of the removal of OtherOS.

Sony wasted their time, and made some hackers some money.  Pirates aren't gonna just start buying games b/c you impede them, they'll just find another way.

YAY!!! =)

well, that was expected, the lawsuit was idiotic to start with...
