Forums - PC Discussion - ATI brand to be dropped

Yep, that's right. It has been confirmed that in a close future their video cards will be known only as AMD Radeon, possibly starting with the 6000 series. Now Nvidia needs to release their CPUs and Intel to complete the damned Larrabee and we'll be set.

Awwww, I always liked the ATI name. Oh well.

Makes sense. A lot of people buy AMD computers. People will likely buy AMD video cards to go with it as opposed to Nvidia.

As a Canadian I'm kinda sad to see another one of our tech brands die, but... surely one bland acronym is as good as another?

Yes, and they're also selling the cards with just the RADEON name, so it won't look weird for mixing with Intel CPUs either.

I'll miss that pretty and tiny ATI logo on next gen consoles and video cards.

BTW I know it is just a rebrand, but for me it raises the chance of at least one console next gen going for x86 architecture and having both of their processing chips from a single company.

Sad news from a nostalgia perspective but I guess it's for the good commercially.
