can M$ be more greedy?

I don't understand how some X360 fans can defend Micro$oft kn this one.

IN-FLA-TION

MS have actually been pretty giving over the past few years when you think about it.

My mind is absolutely blown. The only company charging for online services is being "giving." I feel like I should be angry by your statement but it confuses me so much I don't know what to say.

Why should it anger you in anyway?

MY mind is blown so many PS3 fans take it upon themselves to make it an issue.

Online is a free service buddy, always has been. As a PC gamer its just further proof of how horrible MS is for gaming as a whole. And I'm angry about your statement. Its like saying that someone shoving half his dick up your ass is being generous for not putting the whole thing in.

Clearly not.

MS is horrible for gaming? I don't see it affecting PS3 online gaming, or PC? It must just be horrible for X360 owners, but the majority are fine with this??? You're looking for weak excuses.

Why use that anology btw?

Oh it has, until MS realized it could scam children and people who didn't know much about games for easy profit.

All that DLC stuff? Who do you think brought that into the world? MS.

Because you are getting ass raped.

You seem to have the mindset that more money for MS= more games or more features. But thats not how it works. More money for MS= more money for MS execs, thats how it works. Look at nintendo and sony, free online- but they make way more games for their system. So where is this live money going? Clearly not into making games.

@d21lewis, I got the same deal thankfully, but I'm farily positive it was "33 percent off"  not 33 dollars, it told me it would be 39.99.  Before that they had where you could get a month for a $1.  Kinda funny to be hiking up the price amidst all these promotions to lower it.

When you subscribe directly through the console it requires an auto-renewal subscription with your billing info, so I'm sure the plan is something along the lines of get as many Silver subscribers to switch to an auto billed Gold subscription for $40, which will be $60 in another year.

While you lose the big convenience factor, the cards remain the best way to buy XBL Gold subscriptions so that you don't get locked into the regular rate, which will always be the highest compared to regularly discounted cards bought through Amazon or whoever.

Seems in line with inflation, still going to get booed though I suspect.  I'm more interested, if this gen does last longer, how people might view the higher Live vs ever cheaper console prices and whether Live might start to seem expensive in ratio to the initial console investment as a result.

I doubt it'll see more than a few actually quit the sevice myself.

Seriously, for an extra $10 a year, the only people who would quit the service would be those who have stopped using their Xbox anyway (or rarely play online) or those who will quit out of spite or general principle, not that MS ever claimed the price of XBL Gold wasn't subject to readjustments or change.

Sure, it's less than an extra $1 a month, but nobody likes paying more for the same service.

i think MS fans would pay $89.99 for a 1yr. service.

It shouldn't piss anyone off with a shred of logic in their brain.

Because they wouldn't be paying for Gold in the first place?

No. because it's inflation, whether or not you think it's worth it is irrelevent, keep your trolling to yourself.

Blah blah blah, scream troll rather than try and justify this nonsense.  I mean all over the web there are comparisons between PSN and XBL and questions being raised if the XBL fee is even justified, then they go and hike the price?

Yeah that doesn't scream broken.

Justify? I like playing X360 games online. There, that's my justification. At the end of the day, nobody needs to justify anything to anyone but themselves, it's none of your business what they do with their money.

Unless your married! ba-dap-bap!

Umm, married man here with 4 kids (2 play live atm) :)

There is no problem here for me. I'm actually surprised that it took this long. Of course I'm a full grown adult that can afford such luxuries. I imagine some young broke cats are gonna bitch about this but I've always said that if you can afford video games and internet and all kinds of other gadgets, junk food, weed, beer, and this list goes on.....then you can afford Live IF you really want it. There is no right or wrong in this it's just as simple as anything else. You want it? Then pay up bitches! If not then hit the bricks on over to PSN or wherever else you'd like.

I'm certain that a large percentage of the people that are going to have a "problem" with this are the people that like talking shit about MS and Xbox and Live. It's business as usual on this site already. Call these kids out and they don't respond with anything legit....fucking WEAK!

http://majornelson.com/archive/2010/08/30/price-change-for-xbox-live-gold-subscription.aspx?PageIndex=1

Yeah all those MSFT haters who have 20k plus gamerscores and must subscribe to Major Nelsons feed just to go on their and troll MSFT all the time and at the same time buy and pay for their goods....those TROLLS!!!!!

You can get off your soapbox anytime you want. A lot of those users make good points. The only reason people liek yourself want to "justify" it is because youve always paid for LIVE, the people who are complaining are finally sick of paying for something that a lot of other gamers get for free and this is just a slap in the face. Its not monetary, its principle for a lot of people.

Soapbox, funny. First of all, did I specifically say anything about Major Nelson? Seriously, you don't think that there are a good amount of people who like to take shots at MS that would use this as ammo? That's all I was saying.

I'm not justifying anything. Basically all I said was that I don't give a fuck about an additional $30 spend on LIVE in my house. There are so many things that have gone up and up and up, this is just one more thing to me. And yes, I have always paid for it because I enjoy it and can afford it. Where's the problem there?

As far as these gamers that don't want to pay due to principal. I can respect that, principals influence a lot of my decisions.

I could be wrong here but it almost seems like you have a problem with me NOT having a problem with this increase. Well I'm not the only one.

I LOVE paying for Xbox Live! I also love that my love for it pisses off so many people.

I don't get this. MS said they had more than 25 million members back in April I think. Might be some more today.

And sources said more than 50% are gold members. So we have about 14 million paying users. So XBL fee revenue should be about 700 million USD every freaking year. That is money Sony or even Nintendo wished they had.

And to expand XBL to mobile phones you thought they would like to give it a broader appeal with prices for everyone. Sure they added content like ESPN, Netflix, Facebook, Twitter, Party chat etc etc. But 700 million USD should be enough money for these apps.

The ESPN deal might be pretty huge, but they need to expand the service even more.

And I am not even affected by this.

You aren't suggesting Microsoft is greedy, are you?

I doubt this will be a huge problem to many of the current users of it...this might be a problem for future buyers tho

Anywho did anyone consider this maybe is to cover costs for the new Kinect dashboard in addition to espn and inflation? For some reason that's the first thing that crossed my mind :S

Weren't there also Family Rates that were made available too?

I know something exists but I never looked into the details. Maybe I should, my 14 mo. old daughter was correctly holding a 360 controller sitting on the couch a few days ago, lol.

I LOVE paying for Xbox Live! I also love that my love for it pisses off so many people.

to me it's not a big deal, it's 10$ extra for a whole year.

I don't really care. I have tons of *exclusive* 360 games on my PC already and play for free. I question the need, but I am aware that there are actual exclusive games on 360 that aren't on pc, so...meh

But I do have a question about the "inflation" argument.

Did they really feel the need to increase the price of their highest margin product? Like how much does it actually cost them to provide you with the service?

I know that I made a comment earlier that I agree with, but also, I think that $69.99 is def fair, as wireless internet is expensive, and i'm sure that some people play a couple hours every day which adds up.
