what your hardcore fans want from you is this go buy studios to build up your first party titles is that so hard to ask?

Why is this so essential?

Has it really done anything for Sony? I don't see their console sales skyrocketing becauase of 1st party games.

Anyhow, they do have quite a few IPs already. I'd assume they have projects in the works as well.

A lot of the major Xbox 360 games are only timed exclusives (e.g. Mass Effect, Ninja Gaiden, Bioshock). This is mainly because they're not from first party developers. The PS3 has more and more exclusives compared to the Xbox 360. And for new consumers, that could be a good reason to get a PS3 instead of the 360.

They already built new first party studios. They just haven't developed a game yet.

Spawnpoint Studios

AFAIK SpawnPoint Studio was renamed in Good Science Studio. So there first game is in fact already well known even if it's not released yet.

What did they develop?

Kinect Adventures.

Thank you for explaining. I didn't realize any of this.

My guess is MS hasn't made releasing a bunch of exclusives a priority like Sony because it doesn't have a big impact.

Both consoles really depend on 3rd parties and multiplat anyhow.

No we don't...We want diverse portfolio of games, 1st, 2nd, 3rd party...doesn't matter.

This. 1st party means nothing if it's all the same type of game.

Pretty much my thoughts.

Though Microsoft have purchased/set up new studios recently for developing Kinect games, IIRC.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

M$ needs to push it's old IP that is laying dormant, and they have a ton of them.  i don't care if they partner with others to do so, ala Alan Wake or Halo Reach, or work on them with firs party studios.  I think the key action  that needs to happen is for them to their exclusive content out, maximazing the strenghs of their console.

All I can say as I have agreed with the original premise for a long time. Microsoft just does not want to risk losing money by buying studios. After all, their hardware has a tendancy to sell mediorcrely.  They are happy to thrive off of a few big selling games (we all know what they are) because they are good and extremely popular. For a lot of people this is not enough. I know Microsoft will lose some supporters next generation if they do not create their own IP's by buying more studios. I am so sick of timed releases.

are we making a trend, because of two consoles or do you include Zune and Kin, which have nothing to do with anything?

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

I'm talking about more than their consoles of course, as the 360 has done alright and is doing consistantly well the last 9 weeks or so.
