Because Sony themselves this year said they expect just 7% of the market in Germany this year while expecting 360 to have 14%. Which means Sony themselves for 2010 said 360 will outsell PS3 by 2 to 1 in Germany.

Stop writing this nonsense. You have made up the same nonsense in another thread and were duly corrected there. Now you start the same rubbish in this thread. Go to school and learn to read.

The thing is with this gap i think as more evidence is released we are seeing that Sony might have messed up a little and those numbers are misleading. Because Sony themselves this year said they expect just 7% of the market in Germany this year while expecting 360 to have 14%. Which means Sony themselves for 2010 said 360 will outsell PS3 by 2 to 1 in Germany. So we know that the two biggest regions for gaming in Europe (UK and Germany) have 360 above PS3. Which means what other countries in europe could make up that 3m difference? It looks more and more likely Sony simply either over-shipped or maybe got their numbers wrong, it wouldn't be the first time a company has done that.

At the end of the year Chart Track will release the numbers. I expect that were see numbers to be in line with what VGC have. Why do i think that? Because in Sony's recent report they announced for the past 3 months how many consoles they sold/shipped. If you add up the numbers on here for that period you see VGC was about 300k out. Since we had adjustments recently i imagine the number will be a lot closer. Which means VGC and Sonys figures for the period are in line with each other. WHich just makes the additional 3m gap thing look bogus in my opinion.

They overshipped?

How?

I mean they sell/sold the 120gb ps3s for 300 just like the 160 gb versions, that means they hadnt much left at retailers

Nah i got my numbers wrong as the guy who posted the figures didn't explain what they were for. It indicated it was market share for the year however at closer examination it is actually predictions of how much each console will decline on the previous year. Which is pretty strange that a company would do all that work for their competitors but there you go. So ignore what i said above. Until we get the numbers from track at end of year we won't know how close vgc is i guess.

That other thread was updated after i posted it. If you read what the guy said he changed it because it was indicating market share for the year. But now it indicated what Sony think will happen to each console year over year. But it didn't say that initially, hence why he said "sorry for the misleading numbers".

So i did read it, not my fault the context changed after i had. As for the school remark...i bow down to your superiour intelligence, you certainly got me with that witty remark!

The premise of Wii going down to 3rd place which might happen any week now ;)

Loads of interesting stuff; the old status quo of Wii>>>>PS3>360 has been turned on its head since the 360 Slim. I find it interesting to see whether it will last from week to week, and if not for how precisely long it does - whether PS3 can overtake Wii before the holidays, whether 360 can maintain 1st, if/when the Wii reclaims its throne. I also like analysing the YoY trends. And of course the usual software figures, and pre-order charts (and particularly the pre-order comparison charts that users post).

If you find the numbers boring now, then I dread to think what you thought of them a few months back!

Interesting. I haven't even reflected on the Wii slump. Is it really that bad? Shouldn't be a prolonged thing though?  I mean "Sony overtake the Wii before the holidays" u mean even for just one week right?

I just tend to check out the gap, "oh, it's still only 5.3 million"  and then move on to the software charts, but software releases have been sparse for a long while.

It's already happened once and likely will this week too if ACE:R keeps sales high in Japan and if the SKU shift produces a noticeable bump in the states.

It's already done it one week recently. I mean potentially on a regular weekly basis.

Whether or not Wii's slump is prolonged is another reason I like following the hardware sales at the moment, because there's an expectation that Wii will reclaim the top spot by quite some margin come the holidays and it'll be interesting to see if that turns out to be the case.

It's the unusual nature of the sales of late, and the unrpedictability of the future, which is what makes it interesting, to me at least.

P.S. on an unrelated note - why do you still expect the PS3 to overtake the 360 in overall sales?

Wow it would be really exciting if the Wii would keep struggling.

PS3 will overtake the X360 because it's selling 1-3 million more units per year and there's at least two years left of the generation, and as soon as Microsoft announces the Xbox 3 the sales of the X360 will decrease and so the PS3 will be able to gain a lead.

2006 - X360 > PS3
2007 - X360 > PS3
2008 - X360 > PS3
2009 - PS3 > X360
2010 - PS3 > X360, but not for long. (580k to go)

How is PS3 outselling X360 1 - 3 million units a year? Please do your research

aw c'mon I wanna see the new EMEAA numbers :(
