The US release date for DKCR points to a pretty massive push by Nintendo at exactly the right time. It remains to be seen how the audience will respond to it, but I don't think it's impossible for it to end up comfortably above 5million, if not pushing towards 10million if it sells to maximum potential.

Agreed. There's a few DS games coming this year I'm still excited about (Ghost Trick, Etrian Odyssey 3, FF 4HoL, Layton 3), but all the really good stuff seems like it's next year (Golden Sun DD, Fire Emblem HoL&S, Okamiden, Ninokuni, Inazuma Eleven, Pokemon B/W, etc). Nintendo's fall lineup is particularly pathetic, they really couldn't fit something like Last Window into that wasteland?
Oh, and throwing some fuel on the whole DKCR debate, I bet it outsells LBP2 by 2 to 1 or better. Hell, Kirby might outsell LBP2 too.... Sega and Ubi missed an opportunity going digital and episodic imo, I think both Sonic 4 and Rayman Origins could've banked getting full retail releases on Wii. In fact, I think those games would've outsold Sonic Colors and Rabbids in Time handily. |
Wait so Golden Sun was delayed? At E3 they said Holidays 2010. Dam, this game has been delayed from a 2005 Gamecube release sooo many times. I just hope it comes out! I realled loved Golden Sun 1 and 2, but you have to finish the story!!!
As for my opinion on this Donkey Kong debate, I agree with you. Donkey Kong Country sold 8 million units on the SNES, and judging by the popularity of New Super Mario Bros. Wii, it will explode sales-wise. I know many Wii owners excited for this game, it appeals to casual gamers and hardcore fans of the old franchise. Every Casual game on the Wii eplodes, look how much Mario Party 8 sold! One of the worst Mario Party's almost outsells all seven prior interations just because it's an early Wii title. Mario Kart Wii has outsold the entire previous Mario Kart franchise combined (excluding Mario Kart DS), and New Super Mario Bros. Wii is recorded as the fastest game to sell 15 million units, and is on track for outselling every past Super Mario Bros game except for the bundled original Super Mario Bros. I think absolute worst case Donkey Kong Country Returns break 5-6 million, realistically I think 8 million or so sales, but I feel I am being conservative. It may break 10 million and it's probably going to be the best selling new game this fall second only to Wii Party, and Halo: Reach.
As for Kirby Epic Yarn, I think it will outsell LittleBigPlanet 2. I don't think LBP2 is going to have the same impact LBP1 had, I don't see many reasons why LBP1 fans are super excited for a sequel. Yes it will be good, but I don't really see too much new content in the sequel over the original. Kirby, looks amazing, it may be the best playing Kirby to date. Not only that, it's sold on the Wii, so that will probably triple it's normal sales. This would be interesting to watch, but I'm leaning towards Kirby.
