Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo really seems to be returning to their roots

While looking at NES box art today I just noticed something that never stood out to me before, every Nintendo game had a tag on it labeling the genre it was helping out the customer make a more informed choice through box art, it's something Nintendo games have distinctly lacked till the Wii and DS.

Tag at the bottom left

Distinct tags for online and what you need/options to play with as far as controllers go and how many players.

A touch generation title which those tags also show up on Wii games of the same nature and now they all have brief descriptions which help buyers out.

To me this helps out everyone from the informed gamer to find out more details to the newer gamers and its just smart marketing on the package itself, its just so odd distinct tags like that seemed to just vanish after the NES.

But isn't that what got them in trouble in the first place. Or one of the reasons, if the assign quality tags, third party publishers might not join.

Oh wait you were talking about the genre tags. Cool.

Your peripheral and player icons started up on the N64.  Take a look at the front of the box for any N64 game that is either multiplayer or supports rumble/expanion RAM pack.

Nice catch I forgot about that since N64 lacked your typical add ons

But heres some cover art from NES days that talked about required add-ons

The tags never did vanish, they just got less and less after each gen, that is until this gen they all came back in full bloom!
