Forums - Nintendo - Kirby's Epic Yarn is awesome

I played the demo at gamescom. Controls feel great, the art style is even better live than in the videos, and the 2 player coop mode makes the game predestined for playing with casual gamers and kids. Definite buy for me now.

The demo was pretty short, only three levels, I think it was the same as E3. Being able to transform at will is cool, though I must say I never played any other Kirby games before and didn't have any reservations about that. You can transform into the parachute or a stone while jumping (so its just a substitute for abilities like gliding or buttstomp), auto transform into a submarine in water, and transform into a car to speed up. The only other transformation in the demo was the tank, I think. I played the blue king and steered the tank as well as threw missiles, while the Kirby player punched with a giant glove.

The levels were also on the easy side, nothing very challenging. The dragon bossfight was fun in spite of that. We have to wait if later levels get challenging enough. But as I said, definite buy either way.

I'm looking forward to Kirby's Epic Yarn myself. Man, as a platformer fan... I really couldn't be happier with the gaming lineup this holiday season. Kirby's Epic Yarn, Epic Mickey, Sonic Colors (both DS and Wii), Donkey Kong Country Returns, LittleBigPlanet 2, Sonic the Hedgehog 4... love it!

Plus, with a boxart like this, how could the game not be awesome?

Thanks for the impressions!

ya it really is fun, the dragon boss is fun to fight

It's very original but from the videos I thought it was a bit slow the gameplay? Or is it the same as the other versions?

This is the first Kirby game I've ever been excited about.

Sadly, it's on the Wii and I've just fallen out of love with my Wii for the single mere fact it doesn't have Achievements/Trophies.  ;_;

I really want to play the game, I just know it's going to be another Wii game I'm not driven to finish or progress.

Nope, so many Wii games I just don't play because ever since Achievements hit the scene, I just don't feel like I'm accomplishing much.  I suck, I know.

I have a stack of Wii games that I either haven't played or started but didn't get past more than an hour or so because I'd rather play a game where I get achievements.  The really sad thing is I'm not even that much of an achievement whore.

This game looks incredible and the art style itself just makes me smile, I'm just worried I'll buy the game and never touch it because when given the choice, I'll probably play the game that gives me achievements/trophies.

Twesterm....remember the old days when what drove you to completing a game was being able to say you did.  Or just to see the next level.  I think achievements are great (and many Wii games actually have some sort of system in place)...but shouldn't a game compel you to play it simply because it's either fun or challenging?

I'm not knocking you or your opinion...I just think that something has been lost this generation.   Case in point....some people will play the worst games ever created just for the achievement points.  At that point it's almost like the achievement points become its own game...whereby the difficulty ramps up based on the dullness or boredom that is inflicted upon you just to earn a few more points.  Genius.

I completely accept my opinion is actually quite stupid, I hate it.  I also remember the old days, but when given the choice of playing a great game like Super Mario Galaxy 2 or a mediocre game with achievements like Lego Harry Potter with achievements, I'll probably choose achievements.

I love the thrill of a great game and the satisfaction of beating game, but I love seeing something that extends to all my games get improved even more.
