Muslims in USA don't have it as bad as Christians in the middle east. Religious persecution is a huge deal in middle eastern and southeast asian countries. I did a study project last year on Christians being tortured and killed in Burma and having to flee to Thailand to escape death.

Don't get me wrong, I agree that it is sad this is creating so much controversy when there are much bigger issues to address (BP oil spill, the economy, etc.) but Muslims should just be glad they are allowed to freely practise their religion and not cry over a little controversy.

WOW! Just wow! That's some racist shit right there.

Islam and Christianity are both based off of the same abrahamic religion, and is the second biggest regligion in the world with 1.3 billion followers around the globe. Should 1bn people just be glad that they can freely practise their religion? Should religions such as buddhism, hinduism and judaism also "just be glad" that the surperior master race of christianity allows them to practise their religion freely?

Dude I'm not trying to be racist, you're missing my point. All I'm saying is Muslims (and other religions) in North America are treated much better than non-Muslim religions (Christianity, Buddhist, etc.) in Muslim countries like Burma, Malaysia, Pakistan, etc. In North America you can freely practice any religion, in Muslim countries you can freely practice Islam and nothing else.

Hey I'm agnostic and all and really can't stand organised religions but did you just call Burma a muslim country? And out of all the Muslim countries that don't allow true freedom of worship of different faiths you picked Malaysia? People in Malaysia for the most part live in harmony. I can name you some Muslim countries that not only repress other religions but also repress different sects within their own religion. And those countries Governments are most likely only in power because of crucial military, diplomatic and economic support of the freedom loving West.

Thanks, i just have to wonder why mass media doesn't talk about these instead of concentrating on how divided we are as a country - we don't have to divided.  I guess controversy sells more ads.

Senate Democrat  Leader Harry Reid is against the Mosque being built there.  Maybe because of the millions that danced in the streets on 9/11.

I'll tell you what I'm pissed about. It's been almost 10 years since 9/11. Have the towers been rebuilt? NO. EPIC F#%!KING FAIL. There is too much bickering over nonsense and that's just what this is. Let them build their Mosque. I mean there are strip clubs and liquour stores in the same area and they worried about a place of worship. It's not even a "Ground Zero" Mosque. It's a few blocks away from Ground Zero.

This is the real outrage, and I doubt anyone would care if they built a 13 storey mosque if it was in the shadow of two 110 storey towers.

i knew about thanks to steven colbert.

Being in 3rd place never felt so good

and why is fox news saying that they want to "shred our constitution," considering not letting them build this mosque is in direct conflict with the same constitution.

Fox news saying something utterly ridiculous?!?!?!?

I say let them build it.  There's been a real screw job done on Islam over here.  When Timothy McVeigh blew up that children's hospital nobody was like, "Christian terrorist blows up hospital."  They've got a right to build it.  There might be some issues that take place like graffiti and property destruction but fighting for your rights usually comes with some pain along the way and making the status quo uncomfortable.
