Forums - General - Obama throws support behind controversial Islamic Center

And now he's backpedaling.

So all Obama did was tell us rubes about the First Amendment, and since even Peter King acknowledges they have the right to build the mosque, he didn't really say anything useful at all (par for the course for him).

Respect increased for Obama after reading this. It's good that he has stuck by his ideals on this one.

any one question his religion now?

No, he's Christian. He's also American and a President who must uphold our Constitution. There is absolutely no reason to not allow that Mosque to be built.

this ^

so far as I know, there is nothing to stop them doing this.

did I read correctly somewhere that some guy wants to build a Gay Bar next to it btw? if so, good on him

And the Imam did not like it because it wasn't sensitive to the Muslims beliefs

So, why do you blame the religion instead of the extremist groups that is responsable?

they are individuals or groups that take action to make a political gain at no matter the cost. and we all know politics fix nothing. the only thing politics can do is make and create laws, and declare war.

And get in the way of prosperity

sorry had to add this

They are a theocracy their religion is what they base their government on
Because they hide within the peaceful people its their MO

They were Muslims who brought down the towers. The terrorists brought down them so people would remember.

They wanted to shake people to the bone and they succeeded. They went after other monuments well known.  Why do I have to explain why people are offended

I think you know why

You should know by now they are not true Muslims.

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it is not true

They were true Muslims

Wrong... the quote was: "You're free to open whatever you like. If you won't consider the sensibilities of Muslims, you're not going to build dialog"

obama's black, of course he has big balls...lol

OT: though I understand how people are hurt about this mosque being built close to ground zero, they have to remember that this America; and our constitution gives us the freedom to practice out different religions. as tehsage said:

"THE CONSTITUTION ISNT FUCKING SITUATIONAL. IT'S WORKING ALL THE TIME. Even if they built the church ON Ground Zero, as long as they obtained the land legally and zoning-wise, it's safe, then GOOD FOR THEM.The constitution wasn't made to hurt people or make them feel better, it was made to promote freedom for all"

frankly, I think if/when this mosque is built, it will be a main target for vandalism, and frankly I don't think many cops/firefighters would really jump to save the mosque since many of their friends/co-workers died on 9/11/2001.  If I was the head of this Mosque biulding project, I would atleast consider governor patterson's idea of finding another location just for the safety of their mosque and attendees

And with nearly 70% of Americans who are opposed to the building of the Mosque so close to ground zero this is another example of Obama being out of touch with mainstream American values.

While I (and most people) agree that they have the right to open this mosque, I think it is in remarkable bad taste that they go forward. Much like how someone should have the right to open a shooting range next to Columbine high school, and the responsible gun owners who used that shooting range would have nothing to do with the tragedy, only an insensitive moron would open one in that location.

Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf who is behind this Mosque denies Hamas is a terrorist organization and blames the USA for 911 attacks

Oh lets be sensitive to his beliefs and fuck everyone else who is opposed

Instead of belittling people with your admittedly funny picture why don't you investigate instead of just trying to make yourself look better than people with actual concerns.

Real people died
