If by endless discussion you mean someone commenting wii sales and getting flamed for it, yes.

He wasn't serious. It's just harmless support of his favorite console.
Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!
Kojima: Come out with Project S already!
The word "Doomed" is used by defenders of a particular consoler. I cant recall seeing someone other than someone defending a particular console using the word "Doomed" to describe a console. It is used to mock.
With that in mind. I think it is entirely possible that the Wii is beat by the 360 this holiday in 2 out of 3 regions. At this point no piece of software in itself will be a difference maker, not Halo Reach, not GT5, not DKCR. What will sell a console is the overall library and sometimes a game changer like WiiMote or WiiFit and I believe a game changer like Kinect.
WiiMote made moms more comfortable with kids having a game console, because in this day and age many moms are scared of kids sitting around playing games. WiiFit brought in people who specifically wanted to have something interactive to do with exercise. Traditional Nintendo software came along for the ride moreso than pushed people on board.
Kinect is going to give people an option that not only does what the WiiMote /WiiBoards, but at least in theory takes it into overdrive in many ways. I use a Heart Rate Monitor for exercise and not once on WiiFit has my heart rate boosted as much as it has when trying Kinect at Macy's and this past week at Chicago's Navy Pier. This is really going to help push the 360 as the console for hardcore and for others.
Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

I can guarantee you Reach and GT5 will push hardware since they'll be bundled. It's just a question of how much.

This just looks like you making excuses to try make it not sound as bad as it is for the Wii. Sony supported the PS3 this year with quality title after quality title. And they STILL have a bunch more games left for the end of the year... Who's fault is it that Nintendo hasn't released a bunch of games for the Wii this year...? All i got from your post is Sony support there console a lot better than Nintendo support theres. |
No, I will fully admit that Nintendo's the only one to blame for the lack of Big Wii games but the P.S.3 has had big game after big game this year and people still say that P.S.3 is doing good and Wii is failing while the Wii continues to outsell it with no big games. All I am saying is that no games = no sales and so the Wii will fall which isn't hard to tell at all. People act like the Wii is dead yet it is selling more than P.S.3 which people claim is doing great. Wait until later this year and then we will see if the Wii is dead or if people were just jumping to conclusion like idiots...

You have it a little misunderstood. People aren't saying that the PS3 is doing great (in conjunction with the Wii) but in regards to how it WAS doing (i.e.: up YoY). Now I agree with you, nothing suggests right now that the Wii is "doomed", "domed", "dead" or whatever. And yes, Nintendo is fully to blame for the lack of stronger software throughout the year, but again that's not really any fault or cause for/against the PS3. People are just saying that the system needs something to boost it once again, be it a price cut/software/or a game changer in general, which I don't personally think it needs much of anything. It's the fastest selling console, it's got plenty to keep it afloat (as evidenced by the weekly software charts), and will still probably come out on top this holiday, although the 360 has a greater chance of taking it now than in any other year. |
Lol...Yeah I know people are saying it based year on year but that still doesn't mean that the P.S.3 is doing great and the Wii is doing bad overall. In my opinion the Wii needs NOTHING but big games which are coming right before the holidays. I don't know why people keep saying that the Wii needs "help" but yet it outsells the P.S.3 every week so does the P.S.3 need "Help" Anyway I am just stating my opinion thats all. To be honest the 10 weeks of the Holiday's I predict will be like this:
Wii>P.S.3>360 Worldwide.

You're ignoring the bigger picture. Yes, the PS3 sells less than the Wii weekly, and for obvious reasons, but it's also up YoY while the Wii isn't, and both received price cuts in 2009. I'm not saying it's a cause to "doom and gloom" the Wii all day long, but it does give credit to their argument on one area - unless Nintendo has given it their all for the rest of the gen, it needs a booster of sorts. It's just the perspective that you're having trouble grasping, but I agree with you on some stuff there. |
What does the P.S.3 gain from being up YOY? It doesn't gain marketshare and its still in last place everyweek.
Yes I get it the P.S.3 is going GREAT YOY and the Wii is failing YOY but who cares? At the end of the day the Wii is still outselling it so who gets the real gain and who is the one failing.... I don't intend on making the P.S.3 seem bad as I enjoy playing the P.S.3 with my brother sometimes and all 3 are decent consoles but sales are not opinion's their facts. The fact is the P.S.3 gains nothing from being up YOY since its still #3 every week.
Again, people going on about Wii decline YoY, look at the releases for 2010 so far, and tell me, are you honestly surprised? I don't know about you, but when looking at the line up for the greater part of this year, I already KNEW the console would be down YoY, the only question was by how much. Let's look at the big games released this year: Monster Hunter Tri, No More Heroes 2, Mario Galaxy 2, Sin and Punishment, Endless Ocean: Blue World, Red Steel 2.
Now be honest, do any of these titles look like system sellers to you? They are almost all sequels, and many are sequels to obscure core franchises with a limited fanbase. Now these might be good games, but they have a very limited appeal. The simple fact is Wii has not had ANY console movers so far this year. Thus, it has had to rely on NSMB Wii for nearly an entire year to carry it. Even a game as popular as that will eventually wear off. Nintendo went back to appeasing entirely the core gamer, but the trade off of this is that their sales suffer because they shift focus from the expanded audience, which accounted for much of their sales.
The games for this holiday, Donkey Kong Country, Kirby, Epic Mickey, Wii Party, Goldeneye, have much greater potential to move hardware, especially Donkey Kong. Why? For one, they are much more popular franchises/series. And second, many of these titles are expanded audience/bridge titles similar to Mario Kart, which will allow for far more sales. If thesee games don't move consoles, THEN I will start to wonder.
