Forums - Gaming - Mafia II demo out, no one played it?

It's out on PC (on Steam I know it is), Live and PSN Plus (I think it's exclusive to Plus for 24 hours).

I know that the feedback on the console versions is not so good right now, I've seen a lot of complaints about jaggies and low FPS. but I played it on PC and it's quite smooth, there's less pop-in than in GTA IV (with a few options). the anti-aliasing solution is also better than in GTA IV, which just blurs the whole screen when activated. in this one it's not like this.

I liked the cover mechanic and driving in simulation mode is fine too. the cops AI has issues though, instead of magically knowing your location like it's usual in a lot of games, it's almost the opposite. they'll only go after you if they're less than 10mt away from you, so you can shoot whoever want usually without much trouble.  there's also a glitch where you can just stand in a bush and it will be like you don't even exist.

the words above were backed by NUCLEAR WEAPONS!

Yeah I just played it, the PC version. Fantastic!

The story seemed interesting right away. Beautiful graphics and physics. Excellent controls, especially with the superb cover system. Best of all, it was fun!

Clearly so much better than GTA4.

I love it.

Also played the Steam demo. It's pretty nice.

But I turned everything at maximum and the demo mission was pretty demanding. Not the city section though.

I don't know exactly what it was, but I guess it was due to particle effects and physics.

Oh and there is an article on the front page. Some people did play the demo.

U mean the missions running and killing irishmen was more demanding on hardware than free roaming on the streets with your car? Thats a little awkward but I didnt put grafix on max so I wouldn't know yet.

I played it on Xbox, didn't notice any graphical issues, I just really enjoyed it. The atmosphere in particular is amazing and the gameplay is polished, the characters seem interesting. I am really really impressed a definite first day buy

Actually downloading on PC just to see how it would look, though I will buy it on PS3

Not at the beginning, but the framerate dropped for me the higher you get in that house.

I dunno if it was the lighting or the physics.

Framerate got even lower when I was running down the stairs after the fatty got killed. I guess that had something to do with the smoke.

After that, driving up to that bridge was no problem. At least 50FPS. (I ran the benchmark for a few seconds before I started the game)

I played the 360 demo and it was very smooth for me.  There was one minor glitch I encounter where an NPC suddenly appeared on top of my car while was driving and the driving seems to be taking some use to since I kept crashing.  However, the positives outweighed the negatives.  For one thing, the graphics look amazing with really good animations I might add.  The cutscenes in particular look great.  The voice work also made very positive impressions on  me.  From the little I heard, the soundtrack sounds really good as well.  The shooting wasn't bad.  Overall, it looks like a must buy.

this game reminds me too much of Godfather 2 which was a horrible game. This seems to be the same.

I have one question at the people who played it on the console.

Was there an option where you could change the driving style from arcadey to simulation too ?

I already deleted the Steam demo and forgot to try it out.

And you came with that conclusion with playing the demo?

@Barozi

I am not really sure.  I would need to check the options again to confirm.  But I would say that simulation would be the default.
