Forums - General - We have to find a new planet?

Yup, looking forward into the future, spreading out to other planets will be essential to the future survival of our species.

I'd love to witness first contact with aliens, or as darth mentioned the colinisation of mars within our lifetime. Sadly, I doubt we have enough time.

that's just because you don't do your part!

i on the other hand don't recycle, i dump my old motor oil into the river, drop garbage whenever and wherever i can, and even drive over to my next door neighbors house when walking would be faster.

i know, it's not easy, but this is what i, what everyone can do to help.

because i have realized along time ago, that the only way to push space exploration is to make this planet completely inhabitable!

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Doom and gloom. Even the smartest man on earth can sometimes be quite dumb.

We already learned our lesson. We haven't dropped a nuke in over 60 years.  So why would we in the future?

Oil will run out soon so that will take care of the so call man made global warming threat.

Plenty of safe and environment friendly energy can be gotten from nuclear plants. Just build more. In 30 years we're all be driving in electric cars.

Humans are already close to getting only 2 kids per couple, so overpopulation ain't that big of a threat in the long run. And if we really are getting extremely old (like hundreds of years) we could sterilize people so population doesn't get bigger.

Genetic engineering on plants and animals will provide us with plenty of very awesome and great tasting food for everybody. And gene manipulation in humans can fix lots of negative traits such as agression and hostile behaviour in nasty individuals. Soon medication will be produced that makes us happy and content with only little materials. Medication will be invented to kill all nasty germs.

Comps will be wired to our brains and give us artificial leasure which will stop our cravings for resource hungry entertainment such as sex, sports and travels. Comps don't need much materials. And besides, materials could be recycled and reused in the future.

We won't need to go into space. If we fly far out there the risk of getting discovered and eaten by aliens is probably even higher than the risk of the earth getting hit and destroyed by a gigantic meteor.

Wow... you've been reading too much Brave New World. Plus humans will definately go into space and colonise other planets, if only just for the heck of it. Plus someday the Sun will explode destroying Earth in the process? What's your solution then?

I want to live to the day when we forget about countries and  call ourselves proud citizens of PLANET EARTH!

that day will happen if aliens suddenly come and attack us, it would actually be the best thing which could happen to us.

we need to prepare ourselves *looks at gears of war*

Reread my post. I didnt say we won't colonize space. I said we dont need to go into space for the reasons Hawkins listed.

You think the sun will explode soon?

I dont know much about Brave New World. I think it's an old book? What in my post is from Brave New World and unrealistic? Because all those things are likely to happen within a century or two, while permanent colonization into space certainly is not.

bull shit.

global warming will melt antartica or green land causing a new ice age upon us. then all of humanity will die. unless we manage to evolve in such a small period of time. then we will be covered in blubber and we will go hunting seals, we will also grow gills and have lungs at the same time. and then we will build atlantis.

I CALLED IT FIRST!

750k people believe in him.they must be right.

Actually Brave New World is a dystopian novel that did a rather good job compared to the others to predict how the world will evolve. Genetic enhancements (OK the book has eugenics instead of direct genetic modification, but that ideea didn't exist when the book was written, so the author couldn't predict that), medication that "makes you happy and content" were elements presented in that book.

And wile the sun isn't going to explode anytime soon,I don't think that we, as a species, should wait until then to start researching space travel and planet colonisation.
