Furthermore the more they sucker in with the service, the more they will start to offer services as PSN only. One PSN subscription is just one more vote for them to turn PSN into Xbox Live.

this sums it up

Until PS has more users than regular PSN...I doubt it would happen. Sure...you may be able to get 3-4M to get it, but what about the other 30M that don't subscribe? I don't that smaller amount of users outweighs the amount of people who DON'T want to subscribe

Your logic is completely wrong. If they manage to get a few million subscribers on PS-Plus than they'll definitely charge for online play. Sony is slowing making the transition, just enjoy free online play while you have it. Or hope it'll be around for the life of the PS3.

They'll definitely start to charge? Then watch active users on PSN just dwindle and all the revenue they make from free PSN users buying so much digital content drop to nothing.

Edit: 30M buying $100s of content > 3-4M paying $50. If Sony is smart, they wouldn't mandate a subscription

Are you aware the Xbox 360 sells tons of content even though you have to pay for a gold account?

Sony fans would be angry at first. But they'll stay and start paying for PSN Plus in droves. Xbox Live didn't become a success in a day.

Yea...but PSN became a success BECAUSE it was free. Take away its main selling point, then what? That's like taking multiplayer away from Live

Xbox Live didn't become successful because its a pay service. It became successful because MS it has 360 fans by the balls. We want online play and $50 a year is reasonable considering the quality of the service (I pay considerably less than $50 by the way).

PSN being free is only hurting Sony from making more profits. Why else is Sony trying to create services to charge people? MS already proved people will pay for online play in droves. And if they charge, where are Sony fans going? Their biggest competition is a pay service too.

They can certainly make more profit from charging, but who's to say that Sony isn't making a profit already. XBL vs. PSN isn't a competition at all. XBL is at like 35M? PSN is 50M unique active accounts because people have PS3s and PSPs, buying goods over and over.

Only reason they are charging now is because, like you said, they realized that they can get away with it...but they wouldn't stress so much that YOU DON'T HAVE TO SUBSCRIBE if they were going to make a subscription mandatory for all those features. They will NOT take away PSNs biggest selling point. People accept PSN with open arms because its free. Take that away, and numbers will drop. Take multiplayer away from Live, and numbers will drop. Take uber user friendliness away from Apple products, and numbers will drop.

Sony is a business, and yes they want profit, but they are not dumb enough to taking away the driving force that made PSN what it is today

Some of these threads have a life of thier own, interesting to see how they twist and turn.

Regardless, on topic, I wonder if the Op means, in other forums...?  I can honestly say that I don't recall ever seeing a PS Plus "hate" topic here.  I don't look for those kind of threads, but I would guess if it was common, I would've seen it by now.

I have nothing against the PSPlus.  If I wasn't as heavily invested in the 360 as I am (most of my games are on there and I'm a long time Gold member [haha, goldmember]), then I would probably purchase a year of PSPlus to try it out.

Uhhh... you don't have very good reading comprehension.

I'll start with the "XBL vs. PSN" thing first. I said that Sony's biggest competition charages for online play. I don't know how you came up with the notion that I said Sony is no competition. Hence, Sony could charge for online play because their competition does as well.

I think Sony is okay with getting rid of PSN's fan favorite feature if they can stand to make a shit load of money. Why doesn't Sony boast or market their free online service anymore? In my opinoin, no point in advertising free online play if that could potentially change in the future.

At one time I thought the Xbox was a joke because you have to pay to play online. A couple years later, now I'm a paying customer. MS got me somehow and Sony will get you when they start charging.

I have heard horror stories about Gamefly, but most of them were from a friend who gets offended by everything so I generally kind of shrugged them off. His main issue was that he wouldn't clear out his queue when there was 1 game specifically that he wanted, so he would end up getting a game he wasn't really wanting at that point.

It was an assumption about fast delivery because the only service I really can compare it to is Netflix, which generally only takes about 3-4 days between shipping a movie off and receiving a new movie.

Netflix is real fast for me. Closest warehouse to where I live is ~30 miles away. I just sent out 2 movies today and will have my next movies on Wednesday.

Yeah I meant on other forums, mainly the PS Blog (read the comments on the post about going to bi-weekly updates). joystiq and Amazon forums is where I see the most hate, not here.

People are up in arms about the updates getting cut to every 2 weeks (the content isn't cut at all but it just comes every 2 weeks instead of every week) and about the whole "the games aren't free, you only rent them!".  I mean, seriously, PSPlus tells you that EVERY time you buy something and do they really expect Sony to just give you $20 games for free, forever because you paid $50 once?

I'm not saying PSPlus is for everyone, but I'm just surprised how many people are angry because Sony hasn't pulled any shennanigans and clearly states what you are getting and for how long.  People amaze me some times and it amazes me how this thread has somehow turned into a PSN vs XBL thread ;)
