Forums - Sony - Why so much PS Plus Hate?

It is very clear what you get with Plus. Everyone that I know that got it, like it. For me, I like gaming online for free. I like it a lot.

I don't have PS Plus but I think that people complaining about not being able to keep $500-$800 or more worth of free stuff for only $50/year is ridiculous.

Some people are just expecting WAY too much.

People pay ~$200 or more a year for Gamefly I don't hear them bitch about not being able to keep the games unless they keep the subscription going.

You paid $50 for the year and if you paid last month you already got Sam and Max which goes for ~$30 as well as Wipeout which goes for ~$20. On top of that you get free avatars, dynamic themes and so much discounted shit, and you STILL have 13 months to go!!!

The service from what I have seen is an absolute steal.

Exactly....I've gotten Fieldrunners, Age of Zombies, Rally Cross, and I'm going to download Critter Crunch and there was another Mini I was interested if both of those games are still available. Not to mention, I also downloaded Mortal Kombat 2 for $2.50. So I've already gotten a decent amount out of the service thus far and it's only been a little over a month.

But with GameFly I'm getting much higher quality and new retail games. I mean lets say you pay $200 for Gamefly for the year. And lets say you rent 12 games that $60 a piece. That's $720, so you saved $520 compared to buying retail games.

And I'm sure people are renting more than 1 game a month. So the savings could be over $1000 a year compared to buying full priced retail games.

Not trying to be rude but I don't give a fuck about Gamefly in general. :/

For full retail games (and I mean for PS3), I'd rather just buy the games and have a physical copy of my own. This way when I want to pick the game back up and play it, I don't have to wait to get it back. I am way too spontaneous when it comes to my game selection so I'd rather not have to wait for my game to get delivered (much less for Gamefly to have an available copy to send me).

As for the rental service on PSN , I enjoy the fact that the rental doesn't expire until after my contract runs up. Whereas, I will have to send my games back to gamefly in order to get more games.

I swear, its almost like you lack basic logic.

A few games a year are worth $60 because of replay value and multiplayer. However, a lot games are only worth a single play through. I'd say most games aren't even worth that. Gamefly is a inexpensive way to try any game. Its especially great if you own multiple consoles.

I've rented games from Gamefly and bought them later. I also rented games and was happy I didn't waste money buying them. Its a great service and I think you're trying too hard to downplay it. Clearly it has benefits.

What the hell are you going on about?

First of all, you bring up Gamefly because I agree with something that was posted by another person. Despite them mentioning gamefly, I didn't even bother bringing it up because as I said initially "I don't give a fuck about Gamefly." Which let me clarify, means I don't care for the service, but nor do I have anything negative to say about it. It's just not for me. Hense again, why I said I don't care about it. Probably not the nicest way for me to state it, but you randomly jump in to attack me about Gamefly instead of having anything of any value to say about anything else I wrote.

Second, where did I even say I spend $60 dollars on games? If it's a game I'm really looking forward to, I'll buy it at full price. Most of the time I wait for either price drops, buy games on sale (buy 1 and get one half off is generally the type of sale I go for or a buy 2 get 1 free sale works just as fine for me) or if they are from Sony or Microsoft, I buy the games off of their training sites because I work in retail. So do not generalize me based on some stupid assumption you have made for me.

Third, I didn't say it doesn't have its benefits. I was pointing out why it wasn't a service for me. Hense why my scenario was based off of my opinion of why it doesn't do anything for me. I didn't say "People hate gamefly because of this..." or "people should not use gamefly because of this reason."

And btw, tell me I lack logic again, and you will see just how illogical I can get on this forum.

What are you babbling about? Are you pretending you didn't respond explaining to me why you prefer to buy retail games vs renting?

Here's a reminder, "For full retail games (and I mean for PS3), I'd rather just buy the games and have a physical copy of my own. This way when I want to pick the game back up and play it, I don't have to wait to get it back. I am way too spontaneous when it comes to my game selection so I'd rather not have to wait for my game to get delivered (much less for Gamefly to have an available copy to send me)." That's what I was responding to.

I rented many games from Gamefly while they were still full price. That's one of the perks. Not having to wait for them to become dirt cheap  in a bargain bin or online. And if you still really want them down the road, you can still buy them cheap.

If it doesn't have benefits, why did you go on a whole negative rant about it? Why rant about how you rather own a game than rent it?

I'm merely responding to what you're saying. Did you just realize how dumb this conversation is?

Furthermore the more they sucker in with the service, the more they will start to offer services as PSN only. One PSN subscription is just one more vote for them to turn PSN into Xbox Live.

this sums it up

Until PS has more users than regular PSN...I doubt it would happen. Sure...you may be able to get 3-4M to get it, but what about the other 30M that don't subscribe? I don't that smaller amount of users outweighs the amount of people who DON'T want to subscribe

Your logic is completely wrong. If they manage to get a few million subscribers on PS-Plus than they'll definitely charge for online play. Sony is slowing making the transition, just enjoy free online play while you have it. Or hope it'll be around for the life of the PS3.

They'll definitely start to charge? Then watch active users on PSN just dwindle and all the revenue they make from free PSN users buying so much digital content drop to nothing.

Edit: 30M buying $100s of content > 3-4M paying $50. If Sony is smart, they wouldn't mandate a subscription

Here's one of the main issues I'm having with you right now. I didn't say anything negative about renting games in this thread. I was pointing out that I spontaneously want to play a game, then I want to play it at that point instead of waiting for a game to come in the mail. On the rare days I have time to game now, I end up rotating through various games. Having an overnight service doesn't work for me. If I really wanted to, I would go to Blockbuster to rent the game with no issue at all. The issue isn't that it's a rental that gets on my nerves at all. I do prefer to own the games because sometimes my friends and I will let each other borrow games and I like to collect games to be honest too. Does that clarify anything to you?

I have Gamefly and I can 100% guarantee you that it IS NOT an overnight service. Games take anywhere from 3-4 days to arrive based on where you live and the availability of the title. I live in NY and the closest warehouse is in Pennsylvania, so if I send out a game on Monday I will probably get my next game on Friday or Saturday.

Trinity Universe, which I am playing now required me to clear out my entire queue and wait ~1 1/2 weeks to get due to low availability. If I didn't clear out my queue the game would never show up due to the other games getting priority based on availability.

So sometimes the service works against you, but I still like it.

So while it has many perks, especially clearance sales, it definitely has many flaws.

I liked it more when they would send out your next game the moment the postal service scanned it in at their facilities, but sadly that lasted only a very very short while before they got rid of it.

Are you aware the Xbox 360 sells tons of content even though you have to pay for a gold account?

Sony fans would be angry at first. But they'll stay and start paying for PSN Plus in droves. Xbox Live didn't become a success in a day.

Yea...but PSN became a success BECAUSE it was free. Take away its main selling point, then what? That's like taking multiplayer away from Live
