The Wii is third place in hardware, but still sells about 400,000 more units of software than the PS3 and about 575,000 more than the 360. Even if you factor in Wii Sports, it's still hundreds of thousands ahead of its competitors.

The Wii: Even when it loses it wins.

And then you look at tie ratios for the three consoles.....

Can we safely say 50% marketshare aint ever happening for the Wii?

For Wii to achieve 50% market share needs to outsell 360 and PS3 combined by:

1,002,179 p/m to achieve 50% by Jan 2011.   231,272 per wk.
294,759 p/m to achieve 50% by Jan 2012.   68,021 per wk.
172,790 p/m to achieve 50% by Jan 2013.   39,875 per wk.
125,272 p/m to achieve 50% by Jan 2014.   28,909 per wk.

Current rate is:  -288,930 per month on average for the last 12 mths.
-392,184 per month on average for the last 6 mths.
-445,440 per month on average for the last 3 mths.

Negative number means 360 & PS3 are still outselling Wii by that amount per month on average

zero chance.

Interesting...

Now can you do the same with X360 or PS3 to see how many units they have to move so they can reach 50% of marketshare? lol

But nobody ever said that the 360 or the PS3 could reach 50% marketshare.

Yeah, selling 400k (25-30%) more software when your installed base is effectively double isn't my idea of a tremendous achievement. Of course, this doesn't matter apparently.

PS3 or 360 will never reach 50% marketshare but will make wii not reach it

That for sure. Wii could reach 50% marketshare though: if Nintendo launched NSMBW in 2008 instead of Wii Music it would have reached that mark for sure. But things went differently, Nintendo should understand from their errors (like sony and MS obviously) to not repeat them next gen.

The 3DS will dominate next gen, the X360 has now a slim version which is selling hotcakes, the WIi keeps going down because there aren't enough games and IPs, the PS3 is selling well. Pretty much this.

you missed a lot

xbox slim is selling well..HW numbers high SW numbers low so many are specualting it's because of rebuys

Wii is slowing down big time...many deny it since they can't accept it but it isn't moving as much hw as it used to

Sengoku Basara came out in JP this week and the ps3 version outsold the wii version 5:1 ...this and the new white ps3 gave it a nice boost in japan to put it ahead overall

Some Wii fans are going bonkers and going on and on about 'someone' saying wii is doomed and lmao'ing at it when in reality it's they themselves who are doing it...somewhat weired but amusing

Anywho the way things are going this holiday season is gonna be VERY interesting...all three will perform strongly

wii will be wii

xbox has the slim, xbox slim arcade version, Halo, Kinect

Ps3 has Move, GT5 and possible price cuts, new bundles and possible new color variations

so yeah :D have fun reading, I know I am

Really? I'm sure they were tons of people predicting PS3 dominance back in 2005. Plus the only company that won't allow the Wii to reach 50% of marketshare is Nintendo himself because a) they didnt launch their big cannons in the firsts 3 years of the Wii's lifespan, b) the Wii was supply constrained during its first 3 years on the market and c) they will obviously launch the wii's successor sometime in the next two years.

Whatever, as far as I'm concerned Nintendo already own more than 50% of the current generation market, actually it is 60% (home consoles handheld) something that Sony has never been able to achieve, not even during the PS2 era.

If you expect people to still be butthurt over predicting PS3 dominance HALF A DECADE AGO then think again.
