Forums - General - Is 3D already dying?

A good movie doesn't need "3D". And a bad movie (with bad screenplay/story)  will not be better with it (Avatar/Clash Of The Titans/Alice/....)

Stop with this crappy "3D" !

Obviously not every movie needs 3D (for example it would be pointless in a romatic comedy or a drama), but in some cases s it can create a trully compelling experience (for example sci fi, fantasy, action, or even war movies). You may not like Avatar, but your opinion isn't fact (it isn't even in line with critic consensus).

"Last book I read was Brokeback Mountain, I just don't have the patience for them unless it's softcore porn."

I love how that line graph shows movies in order of greatness as well as there presence chronologically.

if Avatar were to release next week then the hypothesis would be that 3D is on an upswing...

̶3̶R̶D̶   2ND! Place has never been so sweet.

3d is dead!!!

Step up 3d only made $15 m. this weekend.  Most of the theaters are showing this film in 3d.

Dumb move by disney.  People were discouraged to see this in the theaters due to 3d pricing.  If it was released in 2d, it would have made more money.

Avatar 3D trailer got leaked and I checked it out at home on my 3D DLP. Looks fabulous. I hope they keep making these 3D movies...

There is like 10 movies already that came out before avatar in 3D which they should re-release in 3D.

My bloody Valentine 3D, Spy kids 3D, Final Destination 3D, Bewulf 3D, Polar Express 3D...etc

3D is here to stay. Avatar was fantastic in 3D, it was like entering another world in person. Everyone who has had that experience will want to have it again and again and again. All the big movies with lots of special effects in them will be filmed in 3D. In 2-3 years all TV sets will be able to show 3D. National television companies will soon invest in 3D TV tech and it will be something you expect from programs that are a natural fit for 3D.

And 3D will get big in gaming, all big games will be made to suport 3D in next gen (just ask our guys on the forums that have tried 3D gaming, they can't go back to 2D-only).

3D is how we percieve the whole world.

I love 3D.

They already do... Some better than others obviously but this month both Kane and Lynch 2 and Mafia 2 are certified perfect in 3D on PC 3D vision.

I think pretty much everyone has hit the main points --- composition and competition.

What's in the movie and how many other (3D) options are out there make a big difference.

It would be more interesting to look at opening weekend 3D take per 3D screen as well as some of the other indicators mentioned.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

But what about console games? Im not aware of any 3D support in games like Hello: Reach, Fable 3, Gearsofwar3, Creed Brother, Rage, Dead Space 2. Dr Age 2, MGS Rising etc? Or?

Pretend u get the Sony shutter gölasses, will a guy be able to game the above games in 3D?

There isn't any obviously. Cosnoles don't have the harware to push 3D properly yet...no matter what Sony says.

So you are right in saying "next gen" is where its at for console 3D.

However lets not pretend that if consoles aren't doing it, tech doesn't exist or matter. :)

I agree that in just a handful of years most sold 3D sets will be 3D capable.

But the lack of 3D content will be a problem. Almost no TV station will soon jump onto the 3DTV train. And the few that do will probably be pay-per-view only.

3DTV will pretty much be restricted to 3D Blu-Rays and 3D video games for probably at least 10 years.
