Forums - PC - Thinking about Buying Starcraft 2. Need some help with PC

Hey guys i saw on the starcraft 2 requirements that i need at least a 2.4 ghz processor. However my amd processor is only 2.3 ghz. Will this be a problem too?

Those are the recommended requirements you were looking at. The minimum requirement is just a single-core CPU like a Pentium 4 which is MUCH slower than your CPU.

With your dual-core at 2.3 GHz you are very near the recommended level (2.3 vs 2.4 GHz is basically no difference at all).

thanks for clearing this up. I have also noticed games like The old Republic requires much higher specs. I am a little worried about this since i donn want to spend all of this money only to know it will be outdated in a couple of months. So with my pc specs would most games ork on it? Like crysis and mass effect 2.

I couldn't find the requirements for The Old Republic, but I'm absolutely sure you'll be able to play Crysis and ME2. Not at the highest graphical settings of course (which few computers can anyway).

You'll be able to play any current game, as long as you don't try to jack up the detail too much.

and i will be getting equal or better graphics than the 360 and ps3 right? With this setup is it likely I have to run starcraft 2 on medium settings? Also do you think I should upgrade psu for radeon 5670?

I am not looking for something too spectacular. I am just looking for something that at least matches the xbox 360 or possibly the ps3 in graphics.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Visiontek - ATI Radeon 5670 1GB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card/9975432.p?id=1218211781152&skuId=9975432&st=5670&cp=1&lp=3

Is available to pick up. Im assuming you don't have access to a credit card for online purchases, is that right? Because otherwise you could get something from Newegg for signficantly cheaper.

i was thinking about getting it from newegg but i have many best buy gift cards to use :) So how does this graphics card compare to the xbox 360 and ps3 graphics? Also are positive it will work with a 250 wat psu

Well why not buy things which Best-Buy has the same or cheaper prices on like say games for your PS3 and use the gift cards for them and buy the graphics card from Newegg which is cheaper?

For the power: I ran an HD 4670 with a similar processor (2.5Ghz X2) and 3 HDDs with a crappy microatx no name PSU. Im certain the HP is better than they one I had and I had no problems.

For the performance: I figured the HD 4670 was about twice as fast as the graphics processor in the Xbox 360, the HD 5670 is about 30% faster again. As an added bonus the HD 5670 will likely last longer as it is a more balanced and more up to date architecture. I would roughly say that its about 2.5* faster than the GPU in the Xbox 360.

Anything else you'd like to know?

Tease.

Starcraft 2 you can probably run in medium-high (I mean, some settings in medium and some settings in high). Very demanding games like Crysis maybe low-medium.

The graphics will look at least as good as 360/PS3 graphics, yes.

As for the PSU, I think Squilliam is right and you'll have no problem.

okay guys i think i will buy it tommorrow!!!! Oh and squlliam can you tell me why you think the power for all of this will be under 250 watts. and how thick do you guys think is the graphics card because i just opene up my tower and there is not much space. (wires everywhere)

also im probably going to get the visiontek brand

errr keep in mind Blizzard is very nice to gamers with their specs.

Your rig is not by any means Flaming hot for gaming even if you update the card. As NJ5 said, you'd run crysis in medium/low , it is a very demanding game, but it's also an old game now, some not too distant games may have min requierments that rule you out.

a good friend is this site http://cyri.systemrequirementslab.com/CYRI/ that basically tells you if you've got what it takes (and where you lack). Might want to check a few of the games you're interested in and a couple of recent ones to see if you're future proof for a while.

OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO

The HD5670 is a small card, you shouldn't have a problem fitting it in.
