Forums - Sony - Why is Sony going to be number 1 next gen?

gamings_best said:

best thread I seen since I came off mah undeserved ban...........

unlike most people...most sad....sad.........sad people, those of us with brains and who choose to use them saw what Sony's angle was with the ps3.

fanboys go: " wait what, ps3 had a purpose and was launhed with a reason my tiny fanboy mind refused to see???

Me: "yes little fanboy yes...

as everyone knows, the playstation 3 was extremely expensive, now to most at the time it was only expensive because Sony is stupid and "TEH ARROGANCE ARRRRGGGGH!!" but to the rest of us, it was because of the tech within the playstation 3, mainly being the cell processor and bluray that made the cost of production of the console to exceed over 800 dollars, see fanboys Sony was hurting themselves more than you, not very arrogant huh? But why did the CELL and BLU-RAY cost so much, well they were almost alien technology that was new to the scene. Sony took a risk on the tech that (as they kept saying but very few choose to listen) will benifit them in the !!LONG TERM!! only a moron thought Sony believed they would make profit and be fisrt place AT LAUNCH of the ps3, that was in all ways impossible, they were selling an understocked console for a more than 200 dollar loss.

Sony knew they would take a hit, a hit that they would recover from further down the line....... as they have. in 06 it must have been hard to see Sony doing any good with the ps3, fast soward to today, sony's doing good with the ps3, is it Sony "stopped teh arrogance or is doing what they said they were going to do from the start. anyway, what Sony has done with the ps3 has made it extremely easy for them with the transition to the ps4, now that expensive tech is not expensive, and the alien tech no one could handle is becoming as easy as pie to develop for, more importantly with the 3rd parties, who are now producing quality akin to sony's 1st parties.

so i predict a twice a powerful for have the cost, as the bases for the ps4, simple because of the continuing success the the big engine that could. Now my thing is, you can only beat a king on the kings terms, Sony has only dominated in the generations that they lauched at a 300 dollar price point, and with dominated being a total understatment if you know what I mean, can you picture what a afordable at lunch powerful playstaion will do to the market. see Microsoft and Nintendo have to face their true challenge seeing as Sony bascially gave them this gen...

now on to the psp.......... their is no freaking way Sony can f**k with nintendo in the handheld market, like a said, gotta beat a king on the kings terms. but while I belive in no way can Sony fuck with Nintendo in sales having sold almost 60 million handhelds is no failure, in no way shape or form, Sony's problem is having thier software match the hardware in sales. piracy is killing the psp, more so than the ds because the vast majority of psp's market is the pirate age. now I've seen some really halirious nintendo fan threads claming 3rd parties will never support psp because of the ds, one that you gilgemesh tried to talk some sense into lol. but look quality software is out of the picture, psp has some of the greatests games ever on a handheld.

what I purpose Sony do with the psp is creat a powerful, profitable, unhackable, dual analoge psp. the games are thier they just need to sell, stop the piracy and sales you will have, now as far as console movers go Sony's ace in a hole is thier first parties, If I were sony I would market the psp as the hardcore handheld with miniture versions of thier best console franchises, uncharted, lbp, GT, killzone, etc. the better controls via dual analoge they would get alot of support. you don't have to outsell nintendo to be successful in the handheld  market.

on a side note of handheld analogue sticks..................... something that struck me odd as there wasnt a billion threads made.......

is.........is..........is that an analogue stick on the 3ds??????? wait *looks at previous nintendo handheld models...no anaologue* wait......wait...... does this mean O_o.....no it can't be.......did........did............TEH INNOVATORZ!!!!......c-...cop......copy...............SONY O_O no...... no....... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO *universe explodes, time undo's itself and everyone cease to exist* or............... the fucking world goes on and no one gives a shit ,

see nintendo fans everyone does it. or now does this mean Nintendo is nothing but a copy cat and never ever ever innovated anything ever in the history of ever.......

I dont mean to be insulting but the standard of your written English is utterly deplorable.

I appreciate that this is an internet forum and certain liberties are taken with the written form (ie "tho" replaces "though" ; "2" replaces "to" etc), but your posting is so poorly written you hinder your ability to articulate your meanings to other people.

Well if they just make PS4 2XPS3 duct taped together that'll make the 3rd parties happy because they won't need to learn any new tricks. It'll keep costs down so they can release at a better price point. And there will be a large suite of launch titles from the 1st and 2nd parties, because they will be working on the PS4 games 2 years before release.

PD will only have 1 main game this gen. They'll have an A-Spec sort of game 1 year after GT5, then they'll start working on GT6 for PS4, and GT6P will be a launch title, probably a bundle option within 3 months of launch. GT6 coming out in year 3.

In effect PS4 will be PS3.5.

I think it, if SONY has a chance, it will be cause they learned all the mistakes for this generation.

But honestly, i think it will take them at least the PSfive to be on top again.

Nintendo did pretty well in the GCN era, the X360 did pretty well(except for the RROD) and i think even in the best case scenario, Nintendo will do great, M$ will do great, but SONY will do better in the PS4 era, however, it wont be enought for taking the number one spot.

You may find a mirror trying to find the other side of the world

......... well..... they could start by not making playstation and making another name. And then changing the console all around (aka not a super power upgrade from last gen)

@Makingmusic476

So The Last Story isn't a major Japanese announcement for the Wii?

Becasue PS4 and PSP 2 will cost 100$ each. And they com with a delicious chocolate cookie machine.

Above: still the best game of the year.

1.  B/c the other two consoles will probably have blu-ray, and will be giving royalties over to Sony.  What will take away from MS/Ninty will help Sony.

2.  The PS4 won't be overpriced as the PS3 originally cost $800-$900 to make.  That was a big black hole for Sony, and cost them money that they could use for other things like work on hte PSN, or for marketing or developer purchasing, or whatever.  The next time around the Sony console won't have this issue.

3.  The PS4 and PS3 will probably at some point have the app for the Google TV, which would be a great way for Sony to get more customers as it already has a partnership in place.

4.  Steam has pledged faithfulness to Sony, and this will probably help them quite a bit in getting some of the more hardcore gamers who tend to be more influential with their opinions and for a long time, MS has had this market but steam will go a long way toward enticing some more people to jump ship.

5.  I'm definitely behind the idea of the PSP 2.0 being a phone or tablet base, as a lot of people buy them for productivity but want to buy games as well.  This will give Sony a great chance to start selling more PSN games, which will do a few things for them:

a.  get more people used to buying games online from the PSN.  A lot of people just find the process of buying online confusing, and once you provide a platform made just for that, it makes the whole thing easier in the future.

b.  Selling online games will allow the PSP 2.0 to eliminate pirating of games.

c.  Selling online games will allow sony to either 1.  get a greater profit margin from games b/c the lack of a physical shipment, inventory cost etc will mean that sony gets more gross profit per game   or 2.  allow sony to drive down the cost of individual games               It 's Sony's choice, i'd imagine that they'd pick the first choice  but having more flexibility or room in pricing has helped the 360 and Wii for a while now and they've enjoyed that

@MM476: That was a cocky post. Im surprised you dared to write that much given the fact that Vgchartz likes to eat long, thought out posts...

Eh, I've got absolutely nothing to do at the moment.  Might as well make my posts count.  ^_^

I just want to say in referrence to your post that there are two important things which must be considered as well:

1. The early lead is only an advantage in the developing nations if the Sony next generation console is viable relative to the other consoles. An early lead is an advantage but there are still a lot of unattached people which either Microsoft or Nintendo can build early momentum with. Their biggest weakness in these markets is that one of the console makers formulates the perfect deal in terms of DRM and console price to allow people to buy games at an appropriate price given their income levels. For instance, the Xbox 360 titles are only 5-6GB on average, Microsoft with their removeable HDD can use Kiosk based distribution and sell titles for $20 U.S. for instance and take advantage of the pirate distribution networks by legalising them. Of course, don't worry they are idiots and they would never think of releasing a console with no optical drive like that...

2. Their first party software whilst they are of excellent quality, they may not be able to push more than a few titles above and beyond the normal level of third party software quality to stand out as beacons to draw people specifically to their system. They've had an advantage with their first party this generation because they have only had to compete with third parties with the resources of half the market. With parity coming from the Nintendo console next generation they may not be able to outspend or out-resource the third parties in order to make their games stand out simply due to being far more polished than typical. On the other hand, if the third parties shy away from spending the money/resources due to losses this generation then the Sony games will stand up head and shoulders ahead of the crowd of third party software. It could go either way.

Tease.

I think Sony will probably rise again to top when home consoles are concerned next gen, mainly due to it's brand loyalty and recognition specially in rising markets, besides a possible headstart.

It will be a much smaller dominance though, likely not going beyond 40% marketshare.

My turn.

Let's start with the console, Sony learned a lot from the PS3, with the PS1 and PS2 they've basically done the exact same and had great success (sure they shouldn't of changed there strategy but this is Sony, they seem to try something new and different a lot), but with the PS3 they changed it up, tried something different to see what the consumers thought, at first it didn't go well, the brand loyalty they hoped for didn't come through but they had no choice, they had to get the PS3 out.

But with every sacrifice comes a blessing, the Cell and Blu-ray, it'll save Sony tons of money on the PS4. Since the cell is already so powerful they really don't have to do much for next gen, add more memory maybe double or triple the power and there set for another powerful machine, not to mention by next gen all developers will be very familiar with the Cell and it'll be very easy to work with (remember the PS2 was actually more difficult to work on then the PS3 was). So there's a big saving there and will insure lots of good games for next gen.

Now the Blu-Ray player, all they really need to do is allow it to play the big Blu-Ray disk (128GB), surely we'll not see games over 128GB next gen (although anything's possible).

So the two things that made the PS3 so costly will now make the PS4 very cheap, this is future proofing your systems. Throw in a big hard drive, revamp the PSN, big debut games, throw in some other feature (something 3D or like those glasses that displays a screen that Sony patent, whatever), at $299 or $349 at the most and you got a number 1 gaming system.

Now handheld, I believe the rise of the PSP2 will be from the downfall of the 3DS. It's looking to be an expensive handheld and that could be a huge advantage for Sony, if they play there cards right they can have the handheld crown. Give it a cheap price, $200 max, dual analogue, fix the piracy, update graphics, and even making it a phone would help big time as well, they wold definitely take the Japanese market, people in Japan use there cell phones more then they use there computers, it's all handheld there.

The next gen is starting soon (handhelds) and things should start to get exciting, were soon going to see what these behemoth companies been hiding up there sleeves for so long.
