I don't think he 'gets the business'. Encouraging publishers and promoting subscription based multiplayer as a means to increase industry revenue and counteract declining software sales seems like a logical fallacy to me. Aren't we most likely to see an even bigger software decline in it's wake?

Software sales decline maybe. But it's not about sales, it's about shareholder return/revenue/profit. Subscriptions bring in a steady revenue while lowering cost (no packaging/distribution/retail). For a part of the business I would see digital distribution/cloud based gaming plus subscriptions as a logical next step. For example: paying EA €/$10 a month to play unlimited EA games.

Blizzard's results says this type of revenue stream can be very profiting.

Pachter's great entertainment. It's the message boarders that have made him so popular either because they love him or love to hate him. Comments sections run wild after he makes one of his outlandish predictions followed by a statement from whichever pub/dev he's aimed his comments at.

I hope Pachter stays around for a long while to come.
