I agree 100% with the OP. It simply won't be able to live up to expectations because people remember the original so fondly. Same with games like Ocarina of Time and the likes.

Console FPS have come along way since the original Goldeneye, unless the newer version brings something new to the table or at least perfects what it's trying to achieve then it probably should be met with mediocre reviews.

I don't think it will be "mediocre". More likely it will be in the 75-85 range.

Come on. The only reason it will get mediocre reviews is simply because it will be a mediocre game. Activision is milking the franchise hard, and they know that even if the game will be bad, the nostalgia factor alone will guarantee that it will still be a profitable title. Lets be honest, even by today standards it looks as a mediocre FPS at best, and the graphics are sub MP3. The multiplayer could be good, but again, not groundbreaking seeing how limited online play can be on the Wii.

Sure, it could become a surprise hit and score in the 90% region and sell like 3-4 million copies, but who are we kidding? I actually have more faith in the DS version, at least n-space has a pretty good trackrecord when it comes to DS FPSs, and that version looks more like the original did

Bingo.  FPS like Golden Eye has  a lot tougher competition with Halo Reach and MW2  than in the past.

Activision will cannibalize their own game this November, and I don't think they really care too much about making it "quality" because of Black Ops.

Review scores won't affect my enjoying the game, I'll just wait to hear what fellow gamers thionk before deciding whether or not to get it. I actually had the original but never played it!
