Forums - Nintendo - Sonic Colours Breaks Sonic Cycle, says Producer

Sonic Boom heard everywhere

We've got high hopes

Takashi Iizuka is a man of great experience in the games industry, having worked on Sonic titles since 1994's 16-bit send-off Sonic & Knuckles. Now head of Sonic Team, he's the man charged with glugging the poisoned chalice of reviving the blue hedgehog to his former glory, with Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 and Sonic Colours for Wii and DSboth on the way before 2010's out. Can we expect Sonic Colours in particular to deliver? Yes, says Mr Iizuka. Yes we can.

Speaking to videogamer.com, Mr Iizuka said the title will not disappoint fans as previous outings have:

For this title in particular, the team is confident that this is a game everybody can really enjoy. It's something that the team is really confident from the gameplay side. It's something that, this time, the team thinks they've nailed it – it's definitely not going through the Sonic cycle!

The fact that the head of Sonic Team is aware of the Sonic Cycle suggests he takes it quite seriously, or that he's visited at least one video game website in the past ten years. You decide.

Sonic Colours for Wii and DS will be released later this year.

We'll be the judges of that ;)

VGChartz' first Sonic review eh? That'll be... interesting.

Anywho, I saw this story a couple of days ago, but I knew that the only way to know is to actually play the game and see how it turns out.

From what I see, we have a hybridization of Sonic Unleashed daytime stages with Sonic Rush sidescrolling stages. Add a bit of zest in the new powerups, and you have a brand spanking new Sonic game that I'm pretty darn excited for.

Plus, with that amazing Sonic hat you get when you preorder the game... it's an easy purchase.

Once again, I'm cautiously optimistic about this Sonic game.

Any Sonic game is welcome...

I played all of them this gen and the only one I didn't enjoy at all was the 2006 HD game.

But if they manage to fix some issues and make it in to a better gaming experience, I'm all for it.

Noooooooooo Smeags, I mean gamers in general, not the site! :D

Ooooh. Yes, that too.

*Secretly does a fist pump*

'Cause Lord knows how many harsh reviews I've seen for Sonic games. Don't think I could take one from my beloved VGChartz.

If Sonic Colors and Sonic 4 are both good, the series might actually be respected again.

I never thought this could happen in my life time.

played this at E3 and actually had a decent amount of fun, it was nice

this sonic game looks pretty good.

At least for me it looks wayyyy better than sonic 4.

This games seems to innovate the sonic formula

I'll agree with that. From Sonic 4, i'm getting the vibe of "quit your bitching, here's your 2D Sonic," in the sense that they're just kinda tossing it out there. The fact that Sonic Team itself apparently doesn't have enough time to entirely develop it attests to that.

Actually, is Dimps involved in Colors at all? Or is it straight Sonic Team like Secret Rings and Black Knight were?

I think they're involved... I'm not sure though
