You don't get very much more mainstream than Kinect.

Another good old bashing of KINECT eh?
Well carry on....
Having to shake your arm to get the thing to respond sounds very similar to the Eyetoy and that didn't sell that great.. I think word of mouth is going to be detrimental to Kinect if these issues persist, nobody is going to recommend it to friends when it's not functioning as advertised.
It'll probably sell 2 - 4 million units these holidays but I doubt it's going to have great sales thereafter..
Lol Kinect is going to go down as a massive failure. If they release it this year as planned it'll have massive technical problems and will fail...and if they delay it to next year (or later) it will fail because its way too late.
Oh and even if they release it this year to no technical problems at all I still think it will fail for 2 reasons.
1) $150
2) Shovelware games. You can't play anything but lame minigames with not buttons. You can only do so much by waving your arms around.
Hasn't most of the gaming press been taking shots at Kinect the past month? It's just IGN's turn now. At some point I hope people realize that Microsoft is not marketing this at the true gamers. Anyone who thinks Kinect (Or Move for that matter) is going to replace how we play core games is dreaming. It will be fun for a change of pace and gaming in groups. But how many people would really prefer motion controls while playing Halo, God of War, FF 13, Killzone 3, Infamous, etc. I know I wouldn't.
I personally believe motion control gaming is at is best in short burst gameplay and multiplayer settings. A lot of people complain about Nintendo's "Waggle", but how long do you think most people can make 1:1 arm motions in an action game before their arms turn to jello?

An example: When I upgraded from Vista ( which was shit), I had no problems whatsoever with the process. It found all the drivers and everything worked like a charm. On the other hand when I tried upgrading a couple of computers at work to Ubuntu 10.4 I had more problems than it was worth. Finding drivers was an event in its own. And for a lot of computers you either have to make your own drivers or have someone do it for you. Good luck with that.
While Eventually Linux may be better than Windows at some time in the distant future, it is no where near as good right now. Compatability issues, driver issues and install issues alone should prove to most that 10.4 still has a ways to go. And until the majority of people use Linux, there will always be issues with compatability. |
I disagree I have had zero problems with ubuntu 10 since i changed from windows 7, which oddly enough got really slow to the point where i was shouting at it, and this is with having antivirus, firewall, spyware, and spam protection, at some point i just got really fed up with windows to be honest i can't stand windows anymore and I am realy happy with ubuntu now and no problems finding any drivers, but it does help if you check the compatibility before you change OS

Whaaa?? I upgraded my PC back in early May alongside installing Windows 7, and I think I've restarted my PC once since doing so. I have yet to have an issue with any slowdown, outside of occasionally having to restart Firefox (which is probably due to the fact that I have like 100 tabs open and Firefox has that silly ram glitch >_>).
Windows 7 is really something else. I'm incredibly impressed by how streamlined and optimized it is compared to Vista. It uses less resources for most tasks, and somehow avoids becoming a bloated ram hog the longer you leave your PC on, which was a major problem with older versions of Windows.
I absolutely love it.
Granted, I haven't had much experience with Linux or OSX to compare. I plan to format the HDD from my old build and mess around with Ubuntu in the near future, since I've always wanted to check it out.
| Severance said: Compatability isn't an issue on Linux , because its a freeware OS , and that you can always download wine for example it works with Steam games, i have Windows 7 on my work PC, a lot of times it crashes with the simplest stuff (a lot less times than Vista but ALOT compared to Ubuntu) , also its pretty slow and "Heavy" compared, while the Pros of Win7 is that the a lot of programs feels "Officially" supported when using it, while on ubuntu it thinks that you are using Windows but they both work the same most of the time, also another Con for Windows is the fact that its the only OS with viruses, even though to be honest i've never had a virus all my time using Windows 94 - win7 and in between,i only had was spyware which is another issue as well. so you saying its the best OS ever is kinda ... you know wrong? |
Um, what?! Are you serious?

well i have had win 7 since last year and i only changed to ubuntu this month, to be honest win7 is fast at first, but it did get slow on me just as xp did to me before it... about 10mins to load up properly, where ubutu is up and running within a minute....
you should try out ubuntu 10, it's definately stating to get much better, i did try going linux about 2 years ago and it was still awkward back then, but ubuntu 10 detected all my drivers i needed for me, the only trouble i had was installing flash for x64, but there are guides for that which make it easier, also now i have wine so i can still play on some of my games:):) it's so easy to use now i love ubuntu:):)
