Different game but same effect:
Deus Ex
Made me want to take up Biotechnology. It basically influenced my choice of degree which has impacted on my entire career progression.
Prior to playing Deus Ex I was going to do Computer Science.

Earthbound would have to be mine. I played a few RPGs before that one but that's the one that started my real love of the genre. My parents bought it for me without having a clue what it was. Luckiest purchase ever. I played it probably 30 times all the way through and my Alarm Clock actually uses the song from that game after you wake up from sleeping in a hotel.
After that would be the games that I think are beutiful and changed what I thought about the artistry of games like SotC and Flower.
...
GTA.
Think it was the first time i seen innocent people get hurt by your actions in a video game. Was a big changing point from the tyes of games we had before. I think the same goes for Doom. At the time it was very different from what we had which were mostly sort of platform games. Going from games like SMB,Ice Climber, Kung Fu,Ikari Warriors etc.. to Doom was like "holy shit!". Good times :)
NINTENDO! This guys usually gave me the greatest games, that's why I still believe in them!!! But the game I got to choose is Ocarina of Time, I still remember how my cousin got it, and that i woke up earlier that day just to try it.That intro with the Deku tree blew my mind! Even do, I barely knew any English back then, the images and the little translation i got, shook my gaming tastes. I'm still looking for a game that does that for me.

Predecessor, but the sentiment is the same.
Play Mother 3?

Well I got Mother 3 when the translation came out, but I couldn't get into playing the game on computer without a controller. Weird considering how much I love Mother 2 but it didn't seem worth the effort to go out and buy a controller for my computer for a single game.

Huh. Shame, that. I played through it on my laptop - ended up being the best RPG I'd played since EarthBound.
My first RPG was Chrono Trigger. I had nothing else to compare it to but that game's story was so involving at the time, took so many twists, hit me with such an unexpeted tragedy, and tied everything up so flawlessly that I still regard it as one of the best games ever made. I'm a little afraid to go back and play it.
MGS3 in my humble opinion is the greatest game ever made. No other game has illicited the emotional response that MGS3 did. I was damn near in tears the first time those end credits rolled. I couldn't even move.
And, of course, there's Street Fighter. Sometimes months would pass between the time I play a game in that series. Sometimes, years would pass. Still, even if I can't remember a character's backstory, moves, or even their name, my fingers remember. My hands know the moves and my reflexes can still predict what my oponent will do. Just slap a six button controller in my hand and stand back. Somebody's gettin' their ass kicked.
Majora's Mask was the first game that made me think about the nature of playing. What is life, if not a game of role playing?
Shakespeare, perhaps, said it best; All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players...
Ps. I never played the Mother series... ):
