Forums - Sales - Can Starcraft II beat MW2 for it's first week sales record?

Modern Warfare 2 sold 4.9 million first week on the X360, does Starcraft II have a chance of beating that record? pre-orders for only America are at 800K so it could do close to 1.5 million in just America.

Let's say:

America: 1.5 million

EMEAA: 2 million

Japan: 1.5 million

That seems somewhat plausible, still not looking great. What do you guys think will it even come close?

Also will we even have sales for it, since VG Chartz doesn't display PC weekly sales, will Starcraft II be an exception?

It wont beat MW2 at retail.

VGC will be tracking it.

Add in the Downloaded sales, and maybe...

I doubt it.

Also, it isn't Japan that would be at 1.5 million, that would be Asia (S. Korea in particular). EMEAA at 2 million, America at 1.5mil sounds a little too high as well.

If I had to guess, I'd say around 3.5-4 million

edit: I'm sure the sales number will come out either way, assuming it breaks PC game records (set by WoW:WotLK)

edit2: Hoping ioi comes in and tells me I'm wrong

If there is a game at the omoent that can beat that record, it would be Starcraft II. But I doubt it will, it might come close but not beat it. Some pirates will find a way to bypass the system for all the people out there who want to play the single game alone.

At some point, something must have come from nothing...

...nothing can come from nothing...

I think it's quite possible...

It's looking great so far and I've kinda stopped pc gaming for a while and with Starcraft 2 coming out I just might get back to do a little PC gaming on the side just for it.

All gaming systems, consoles/PC, have thier perks... why fight over preferences? I like Coke and you like Pepsi, that's it, let's not fight over which toy we like best cause that's what they are. Is someone's preference in a toy important or is the relationship between you and your neighbor more important? Answer is obvious, but THE most important thing is your relationship with God almighty. God Bless you in Jesus's name.

I can communicate without talking... I can send a loved one money without actually sending money... and I can commit theft without the product disappearing, the point of theft is the point of theft not one of it's possible symptoms which is the product dissappearing. The thief wants to gain something without paying for it, that's the point of theft, the thief doesn't have to care or anybody else has to care if the product dissappears. The product dissappearing is just a possible symptom of theft. Gifts are sacrfices, in order to give a gift, it has to be a genuine sacrfice/gift, meaning a copy of the game isn't still in your PC. Piracy is theft and/or being a culprit of theft.

it has a shot

also: in the end Activison / Blizzard will have a very good year for themsevles

Imo the only game that has a small chance to overpass MW2 first week sales is Halo Reach

Not impossible... but improbable... very low chance... and MW2 has 360 PS3 sales for compare.

No, but it'll easily outsell mw2 on the pc. But then again, that was never in question.
