Forums - Nintendo - Wii 2 console innovation touch screen controller?

Nintendo is no stranger to dual screen gaming it just seems to make sense that some of the touch screen magic might translate to the next Wii since Nintendo has found so much success with it. So they could have a regular refined Wiimote for the next generation console to play future and current Wii games and then have it fold open for people to use a touch screen when the application/need arises.

The best way to sell games is to sell hardware and the best way to sell hardware is to make the system accessible, which they have done. The next best thing after that is to make the system useful. It could help them to launch an application store which ought to help reduce the number of hacking attempts and at the same time take advantage of the fast growing usefulness of smartphones by making it possible to use smart phone style applications with the console.

Beyond usefulness they can open up new ways of playing games and new ways to interact with current genres and pre-existing game types. With the Wiimote open, it'd probably look quite similar to the bottom of the DS clamshell, and that gaming mechanic does seem to work on the small scale with the DS so why wouldn't it work on the larger scale with the Wii 2?

not my cup of tea. Just like the wii-mote, move, and kinect. are not.

DS Ihated the 2 screens and touch screen, however did win me over, with 1 game, TWEWY.

but generally I'd just rather have a controller

but nintendo knows how to make billions of dollars and I do not. So I'm sure they know what they're doing.

I don't think their would be a touch screen built into the controller; but I could see a touch screen add on included (just as the nunchuk is now).

Well oops I guess I forgot about that. I assumed they'd want to keep things simple so people won't have to go and find another controller when they want to play a different game.

That would make for even more expensive controllers, wouldn't it?

Though i suppose if they pared down their display capabilities...

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Nintendo said a while ago that they considered having a touch screen on the controller but decided against it because it takes the player's would have to keep looking down away from the TV. a dual screen handheld works because the screens are right next to each other but having a secondary screen away from the TV would take players out of the game.

at least something along those lines.

I think they actually already experimented with this when developing controls for the Wii and decided against it. I remember reading an interview somewhere where they said so.

I think whatever Nintendo is going to do with it's next home console is going to have to be a big, unique concept. It can't just be something they've already done. So far we've seen "touchscreen" for DS, "Motion controls" for Wii, and "3d" for 3DS. These are 3 very different, but very big concepts.

Their next console also has to have something that can't be done on the current system. For instance, they can release a touchscreen for Wii right now and package it with a "Wii Draw" game. They don't need a new console to do that.

All i want for Wii 2 is

1) better tech (obviously) i'm not a graphic whore but Limitations are obviously showing in the games.

2) support uptodate Disk format.

3) make a nintentag and a friendlist not that phone-like number, Keep a "Artisan" mii as the profile holder that shows up online

4) Have more buttons in the controller like shoulder buttons.

5) keep doing the awesome games!
