Fun thread indeed. I like those numbers. They prove that both have a solid fan base.

Really strange
people react in strange and kind of immature way in these forums .. I have to admit
don't worry son.. I won't be ruining anything ... I won't even argue :S
everything I was going to say to you has already been said by binary solo and for that I thank him.
PS3 only released in the U.S. and Japan in November 2006, it was released in March 2007 or later in other regions. So:
| Region: | Japan | America | Other | Total |
| Xbox 360: | 1,174,603 | 20,433,120 | 13,104,804 | 34,712,527 |
| Playstation 3: | 5,376,104 | 14,347,499 | 16,333,125 | 36,056,728 |
Giving a gap of about 1,3 million. Sorry couldn't resist, just trying to keep it fair. :P Though with the X360 outselling the PS3 the next couple of weeks it is still pretty closing.

Actually, they're not since PS3 launch... and that's two weeks before Wii even launched...

Quite a feat beating two competitors at once. This won't last though, the Wii has been steadily losing market share for well over a year and the rate in which its happening is only accelerating with the Wii only 25k in front of the PS3 last week and no signs of any big changes soon. Let us also not forget that the PS2 will, by the end of its lifetime, probably have tripled the combined sales of its peer consoles which takes away a little part of the glory (yes, the market has grown and changed but that actually makes the PS2 accomplishment even more incredible). The DS is also a lot more impressing saleswise, I'm truly curious as to where that monster will end up in lifetime sales. 170 million? More? Crazy stuff.

Well, the thing is, Nintendo's victory is best seen in the financials - the Wii making billions while its competitors are swimming in red to keep up. The Wii will have made far more money than the PS2, or any home console, at the end of its life. It's not as pretty or straightforward to us as sales, but it's what Nintendo has been going for, so...

I'm pretty sure the Wii already exceeded the PS2 profits years ago.
the kind of thread i try to avoid, but pivital in any arguement. well done. heres wishing for a 3 way tie for the end of gen sells?

Actually, I think the PS3 has spent both the PS2 and PS' profits. I seem to recall reading those figures in here somewhere. There's no doubt that Nintendo is the big winner financially this generation, to state otherwise is beyond folly, what I'm getting at is that this gen is a whole lot closer in hardware sales than any other and the PS2 was unique in its domination on the market.
PS: I don't think the Wii exceeded the PS2 profits "years ago" since its only been out about four years (slightly less). No way it made more money in a year or two than the PS2 has over a decade.
but how come people always combine the 360 and PS3 hardware sales together to compare with the Wii?
that's not very fair, and it seems kinda pointless
compare either the 360 OR the PS3 to the Wii, not combined PS360
either that or just admit that the Wii just wiped it's ass with the 360 and the PS3
