Wow the gap between the PS3 and 360 for this year is getting a lot closer.

Yet still very far. Especially considering the gap has been widening again since the release of the Slim model.

How do you figure?

I figure the gap is widening because the 360 has outsold the PS3 for last 5 weeks. It should continue with the release of the Slim Arcade. Reach won't hurt sales either. With Kinect on top of that I expect the 360 to maintain higher or equal sales with the PS3 for the year.

Oh it all makes sense now lol.  I was talking about just this years gap (the PS3 has sold roughly 700k more consoles in 2010) and I was saying how close the 360 was to making that 700k lead vanish.

360 and PS3 will end up a tie in 2010 in regards to sales with 12  to 13 million sales for each console. 360 will have a good second half of the year with Kinect, price cuts and Halo:Reach and other games. PS3 has Move and Gran Turismo 5 and limited time bundles.

Why hasn't all this translated into increased software sales for the 360? The PS3 has sold more software 3 of the last 4 weeks. What's going on?

People bying used games.

I think some people are being a little bullish.. lets wait and see before epic proclaimations please.

Gears of War 2 and Fable 2 have raised the Charts in U.K but yes peopl are not buying games yet and other buy used games or over Xbox Live... Dont know lets wait and see.

I do find it odd the 360 hasn't outsold the PS3 in software sales. But the 360 still has a huge lead in overall software sales.

As mentioned by Dark Feanor, people may just be buying used games. If you check GameStop you'll see used 360 games tend to be cheaper than used PS3 games. Most notably, used 360 exclusives are usually cheaper than used PS3 exclusives.

People may also be purchasing XBLA titles. Popular XBLA games tend to sell several hundred thousands each.

People may also be waiting for major releases. You can expect a huge software boost when Reach hits the market. That'll more than compensate for the weeks PS3 has been winning in software sales.

Some good big new game releases and  game sales  are expected to increase towards the end of the year. September, October and November traditionally have the biggest game releases which sell the most in the lead up to the Xmas sales period.

Halo:Reach, Fable 3, Kinect launch, Call of Duty, Black Ops and a few other games. It will be a good time for XBox 360 gamers.
