Forums - Gaming - Microsoft goes listing. Kinect against Wii and Move

Well, I'll ignore Live and the fact MS are assuming you have to have full motion control for 2 (which clearly you don't) but if they're going to add Wii Fit then they need to add the cost of a decent set of bathroom scales as unless I'm missing something Kinect, while I'm sure it can read your body, is going to need them to weigh yourself and enter the figure - so if we're talking eachy peachy then they need to add the scales!

How do you know how many motion controls I have? Well in any case you're wrong because I have 3 Wiimotes, 2 nunchucks and 2 M attachments.

I have 5...

Actually, after typing this I did think - how do you get your weight tracked with Kinect for something like Wii Fit?  You really would need scales, wouldn't you?  I certainly wouldn't trust it to take a look at my image and have a guess.

TBH the MS chart to me simply confirms the Wii has the price/features advantage as well as by far the larger library of proven, fun titles.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Adding the balance board in there is cheating.

It is a completly optional article that doesn't affect the "core games"

so kinect with no console: $300, with console  $150 (and 2 players max) (only one game)

wii no console 2 player: $260, 4 player $380, with console 2 players: $60, with console 4 player $ 180 (and wii comes with 2 games)

psmove with 2 player (with the pad (up to 2 players with pads)): $510, 4 players (no pad support): $550, with ps3 2 players: $210, ps3 4 players (again, no pad support): $250

So we all know which console has the best value.

That depends of your needs. Actually, its the PS3 that is selling closer to its manufacturing cost. By this fact we can safely say that it will be a better value for consumers who use the extra features. Your comitting an error if you really think that "we all know which console has the best value". Maybe it has the best value in regards of your needs but certainly not for everyone.

As an obvious example, simply add the price of a blu ray to the Wii. This chart would be as good as the one you made, but would take into consideration the needs of someone else. Or, if you always solo play why would you care about calculating the expense of extra controllers?  lol! All logic is valid as long as your able to exit yours...

best value in gaming, no in pointless extras

Shame on you Nintendo for not making an official comparison list :)

Do you really have to post this. Its so pointless and ambiguous

I agree that most of the time the best value reside in gaming. But extras are not necessarily useless lol. The primary reason why I bought a PS3 at release date wasnt for games but for blu ray. Xbox had more and better games back then and I already had one. Sure I wanted to have a PS3 someday but the only reason I bought it this fast was because of the blu ray player not because of games. Different persons and different incomes = different needs. This is why each person could make his own chart to evaluate the value of each console. Everyone would end up with different numbers and conclusions.

To be honest, Wii Fit telling you your weight is probably its worst feature. I can see extreme fatties getting it over Wii Fit because they don't have to see their weight or BMI or be told they are obese!

The Wii has the significant advantage and it will hold it until such time as a next generation Wii is released most probably within the wider market of less enthusiastic gamers!

You mean the ps2 then, right? Because those can be had new for $50-$100 and most of the best games are available for under $25. Contrast this with a $200 Wii where a lot of the great games are still $50-$60 years after release. You also may need pricey controller addons to get the most out of the Wii, which some may characterize as 'pointless extras'.

Demon's Souls Official Thread  | Currently playing: Left 4 Dead 2, LittleBigPlanet 2, Magicka

They forgot to add $60 for a Kinect fitness game, so that makes it more expensive than Wii even in Microsoft's own stupid list.
