I know a price cut is an incentive to buy, and it's not a perfectly equal comparison, but it's far from the 'PS3 had a price cut it should win' situation.

Both redesigns did very well.

360 got a clearance sales and a entry price of 150$. half price of slim

I think its different is a sense that PS2 owners are waiting for PS3 price cut to jump in the ship to be NEW adopters, but majority of Slim Xbox owners are existing Xbox owners that want to get a quieter and seemingly RROD proof version to replace the old ones that give them nightmares, so the market is still the same.

PS3 slim dropped fast in Americas. Less so in EU.

You have to remember also the PS3 Slim released in a naturally better selling period September, than 360 in June/July. 

I expect 360s will have greater legs in US and we will see in the EU. I expect a higher EU for longer to.

I kind of hate the guy, but i'm going to quote Pachter on this one:

"During the month, Wal-Mart ran a promotion offering $50 gift cards with the purchase of an Arcade bundle, driving the already-discounted $149 price down to an effective $99 price point," Pachter said.

"It is clear that the sales spike for the 360 was largely temporary, as clearance items accounted for around 60% of total sales, and it is not clear that software attached heavily to these purchases."

So according to him 60% of 360 sales were old models, not the 360 S. Don't know if that's true, but the old models did get a price cut and a insane Wall-Mart deal it seems.

eh?  you also dont know how many of any of the numbers are slim v old?  so you are ognoring 2 weeks of sales for Aus and NZ? 

how can you do that?

Tell you what ignore Japan then too.. and the US... there is no way of knowing how many of those are slim v old..

add or remove 10k does that change anything that much, take these numbers with a grain of salt this is vgchartz after all most numbers aren't 100% accurate, I made this just for comparaison sake, have a nice day mate

I don't think anyone was expecting the xbox to do so well after the redesign and there still the arcade slim comming in so the xbox should do good numbers for an extended period of time

I think the best thing to do is look at the numbers of the week before the slim released.  then anything above that number should be asumed to be the slim and special offers. SSo just add those into the OP
