Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony patents Split-screen play without Split

Interesting technology. Though I am not sure if this could be done without special new glasses as opposed to the existing 3D glasses. Also, frame rate could become an issue -- since each person only sees half the frames.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

It looks cool but somehow I think this one isn't going into production it doesn't really seem that practical.

it's already in Production, it's called 3D TV

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

My thread for teaching VGC some Nigerian slangs

@ oldschoolfool, I game a lot and have never played online. Usually 4 player local or 2 player. I like the idea of watching 2 seperate movies but I just realised that with this, each guy probably wouldn't see the stuff in 3d anymore since they're getting only 1 image each. Maybe a more technically inclined person can tell me if I'm right?

Hey this would be awesome!  It's too bad though that a 3D tv costs way too much for the average joe like me to afford one :(.  Maybe in a year or two I will be able to experience this :).

Obviously you didn't read.

Hopefully sony gets this out unlike Texas Insturments which had similar tech ready 3 years ago -

RealD offers something called a POD that does this today for 3D DLP TVs and 3D projectors. I am not sure how sony can pattent a tech which seems to be the same, but if they bring it out (and xbox follows suit)... I won't care.

You are right. Either two images to one eye each = stereoscopic 3D or two images one for each pair of glasses = same screen multiplayer.

I find it funny that this would make some of you interested in 3D TV's more than 3D itself, but good stuff anyway.

Imagine a lower graphycs game Wii Tennis like, there you have the whole screen for you, could be great, except it would cause a lot of accidents in the house if played with Move.
