lmao that's hilarious! I never realized the PS2 had sold that much in the past few years. It really is the king of all consoles. The Wii is selling a fuckton this gen but the real test (and the only way it will catch PS2) is if it can still sell during the next gen like the PS2 is this gen.

dreamcast is the only one that was officially $50, but that was a while after it was discontinued.  GC had a deal for $50 on amazon in 2008, that was just an amazon thing to clear stock.  It will probably not happen to the PS2, no point in losing money on it when it is dead and doesn't sell software.  Certainly no official $50 price drop.

Yes, actually, though it's been a while. The final MSRP of the Atari 2600 Jr was $50, as was the final set of the new model NES Control Deck (w/ only 1 controller). I don't recall any other system after these being officially reduced to that price, though I do know there were a few unofficial store pricings to that price on others.

Clearly the PS2 can still be very relevant if Sony supported it properly. Software support is almost dead outside of Japan.

Selling a ton of consoles isn't worth much if you aren't moving much new software. People buy a PS2 and just stock up on used games or bargain bin titles.

Also, the Wii proved graphics aren't that important years ago. Most Wii games aren't even PS2 quality.
