If this is true, then it better have a lengthy SP campaign or cost $10 to buy...

It will be interesting to see how the market responds though.

i can see this being true.

eg. buy game new and it comes with 30 days online play, after that they could charge £2.99 $4.99 a month for online usage.

of course i would never ever pay that but many will. after around 14h of online play i get very bored with COD games.

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

I know that spiralling costs of game development are wreaking havok on publishers finances, but this really isn't the answer. MMORPGs started off as pay to play and were justified due to high server costs. Multiplayer FPS has been free for 15 years so they'd better have thought up a way to truly give value to the consumer or this is going to fail big time.

I don't see consumers eating this one up unless it's designed as a full MMO FPS.

As I said in another topic, I have a bad feeling that this will have far deeper implications than a simple "you now have to pay to play online".  Knowing Activision, this will likely lead to further gimping of the single-player mode, and maybe even flat-out removal somewhere down the line.  It could also lead to the splitscreen multiplayer getting removed in later games, or really anything else that would force players to use the pay-to-play online.

This series is definitely going to be driven straight into the ground in the future, and I fear it won't be the only one.

No more COD for me then.

Obviously sales will decline. However the real question is, will they end up making more money ovrerall?

I think the answer will unfortunately be yes...
