As I said in another topic, I have a bad feeling that this will have far deeper implications than a simple "you now have to pay to play online". Knowing Activision, this will likely lead to further gimping of the single-player mode, and maybe even flat-out removal somewhere down the line. It could also lead to the splitscreen multiplayer getting removed in later games, or really anything else that would force players to use the pay-to-play online.
This series is definitely going to be driven straight into the ground in the future, and I fear it won't be the only one.
