I'm not a big MMO player. I've tried to get into WoW and Lord of the Rings Online and a few free MMOs as well, but the only "MMO" that has ever held my attention for a longer period of time is Guild Wars, which isn't even classified as a full MMO.
I'm very excited about where MMOs are headed though. Huge games like Star Wars: The Old Republic and Final Fantasy XIV are going further away from the established WoW-model than most other big MMOs have done to date, while focusing on bringing a great story to the player as well. The story is the greatest high point for The Old Republic for me at least, and if it lives up to BioWare's promises, I might have to buy a subscription just to play through some of all that delicious story.
Even further away from established MMO traditions, is Guild Wars 2. It is breaking with a lot of standards in MMO play, and is the game that will set the gameplay standard for MMOs for years to come I'd wager. Gone are the traditional stereotypes of tanks, healers and DPS (the game doesn't even have a dedicated healing class!), gone are the exclamation-mark-wall-of-text quests of old and gone are the concepts of kill and loot stealing.
Guild Wars 2 alone has me psyched for the games to come, but I have high hopes for the Old Republic as well. What about you?
