Forums - Gaming - Today I tried Kinect: Impressions (From a Nintendo Fan)

This bodes well for Kinect. "It rocks". Coming from a Nintendo fan! I think that speaks for itself.

I am also a Nintendo fan because of their many great franchises but the Wii is my favorite console ever made(Including the other Nintendo consoles) and a lot of it has to do with Motion controls...I am interested in Kinect.

I find it funny that under the good part it says there is lag.

I like the look of kinect, but it's the line up that to me is the let down.  I think Kinect will sell decently as it can differentiate itself from the Wii, something the Move is going to have a tough time doing.

The one thing that restricts me from buying kinect is that you really can't play any so called hardcore game with it. For example how could you move foward or shoot with kinect?  With move and Wiimote you can play all kind of games and that's definitely plus.

I don't expect many Nintendo FANS to pick up Kinect, they love Wii because of it's Nintendo franchises, plus motion is an added bonus, that's what I get anyway.

Not really.

In my case, it has more to do with the potentially huge entrance fee (around 400 euros for a 360 and a single Kinect, plus a moderately priced HD TV) without enough interesting games ATM to warrant that kind of an investment.

While Kinect itself is an interesting piece of tech, it's essentially useless if it doesn't have games that both take advantage of the tech - thus offering a potentially unique experience - and are solid enough to be considered entertaining.

From what I've read, the lag in things like jumping is because of this:  People have different abilities.  If the game needed you to jump 5 feet into the air, obviously people at home can't do this.  Instead, it treats the player's jump the same as if they'd pressed the "jump button".  Of course, it means that the person playing at home would be on the ground long before the onscreen character is.  To paraphrase a quote from Game Informer, "Actual 1:1 actions would be frustrating."

He's the same dude who still respected IGN after they dedicated several editorials and an entire podcast to Nintendo bashing.

Oh. So he has no credibily and I shouldn't listen to him?
