I'm kinda torn between buying this game, and... Well, not buying this game.
Pros:
-I'm a pretty big Metroid fan. (In fact, I prefer it to Zelda.)
-The combat does look interesting.
-The music.
Cons:
-Based on what I've heard, it's awfully linear.
-It's shorter than the Prime games.
-I hate the writing with a burning passion.
-I have to listen to that shit for over two hours.
So, whaddaya say? Should I give it a shot?

As i've said before, it's linearity is vastly overstated. I'd almost say its about as linear as Metroid Prime 2 or 3, which is to say moreso than Prime 1 or Super, but less than Fusion by a good space.

How is the game not very linear? There is always only one place to go, you cannot advance most of the time unless you get the impossible to miss (since its always a cutscene) unlock so its not even like you can explore and reach dead ends until you backtrack and find an upgrade, you get to see the map in advance, a good majority of the time you are locked out from free exploration with previous accessible areas having doors locked that lead to them.
Fusion was less linear, at least in that you could backtrack to earlier sectors almost anytime you want. Don't get much more linear than Other M.

I'm not feeling that vibe at all, really. I mean, you've always been guided in one specific direction, and there's generally always been one goal on your plate at a time, that was present through Prime. You only get as much Map shown to you in advance about as Prime, as well. (in that dot will appear way out in the middle of nowhere, and you fill the map in as you approach it)
That you can't backtrack would be a more valid complaint, though.
